Instructors can post their training and permit class info

AIM Precision 2016 Training Update

Postby AIM_2014 on Thu Dec 03, 2015 11:05 pm

This is something that has been on my mind ever since AIM Precision began in April of 2014. I am not one to advocate limiting means of protection to responsible armed citizens.

Although, there is a concern that has put me over the edge to implement our new policy for Reactive, Precision Rifle and Employment level courses. Our Essentials classes will not be affected by this new rule.

Starting January 1st, 2016 you will have to submit via email a scanned copy of your PTP/PTC along with your state drivers license. The PTP or PTC must match the address on your state drivers license and all forms of identification must be current.

Your information will not be forwarded to any other agency or outside establishment. We are training you to protect yourself from acts of violence. The last thing we want is to have someone with malicious intent taking our classes.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have on you, but we are looking out for the best interests of safety for students taking classes, the reputation of AIM Precision, LLC, and doing our best to make sure the wrong people aren't being trained.

This information will be on the website within the next few days for future sign ups. If you have any questions, feel free to email me back!

Our 2016 Training dates are listed for Ahlman's and the Hudson schedule will be up in about a week.

Thank you,

Email is not secure.

Mailing scanned images of Drivers Licenses and any other identfication
exposes the individual to potential identity theft.

Why would you risk exposing your students to potential identity theft?

You provide a valid point. I am working with an IT service to avoid such issues. If the service cannot provide a secure means of protecting the information, the policy will change to an in-person verification in the morning prior to the class starting.

Just wrap it in some tin foil and you'll be all set...

Email is not secure, but given how much information 99% of people send over the Internet, sending your driver's license and PTC/PTP is the least of your problems. You have a greater risk of your information being taken from online purchasing or from a retailer's systems being compromised. This is the information world and short of completely going "off the grid", you're going to be exposed to potential IT threats and fraud. Just by using this website, you are exposing your IP address to be read, which could then be used for malicious purposes. Shlt- by driving your car you can be exposed to insurance fraud.
It's all relative.

You make is sound like he's making them post up their SSN and tax records to an Internet forum. Stop being so dramatic about "exposing his students to potential identity theft". It's literally EVERYWHERE and shutting off the Internet or using encrypted communications is the only way. 99% of people don't have that option.

Most national firearms instructors have a requirement to provide a government issued ID, and one of the following:
-permit to purchase
-permit to carry
-military ID
-police ID
-letter from local LE stating you're not prohibited from using guns or a bad guy
-criminal background printout

Most instructors and booking groups request that this info either be sent via email or fax, and some do allow you to affirm that you have the information provided that you show it on the morning of TD1 (and will be disallowed from course if you don't).
In this day and age that has been destroyed by the lawyers, firearms instructors have a vested interest in protecting themselves. One bad student and you get roasted. Taking precautions provides plausible deniability and reduced liability.
Food for thought. Can't blame AIM one bit for needing to be protected.
