So, about three weeks ago, I thought it might be fun to do an NRA Instructor class in Las Vegas, and I started to look at places to hold the class. My first choice was a casino, as I thought it could form the location for a fun business/vacation venue. Alas, the quoted prices were very high, so I settled for a location in Henderson. Still would be fun.

I posted the class on the NRA website, and my website....and of course, the host venue knew also that the class would be held the first weekend in December. I have never done any classes or business of any type in Nevada.

Yesterday, I received a letter from the Nevada Sec'y of State Office, ordering me to cease and desist doing any business in Nevada until I jumped through many many hoops, including filing several documents and paying a hefty license fee.

Unfortunate that there are such barriers to commerce. What would be the objection? Do they feel you would be taking revenue from a local business? Were they questioning your qualifications? Was it a revenue play by the state?

I get hammered like that from Arkansas annually on ad valorem taxes.

I report my fuel and mileages to the state of MN quarterly. In April I get a tax bill from the previous year. Off those miles.


My first year of business, Kentucky, new York, new Mexico and oregon all made it clear to me I needed to be reporting directly to them as well as purchasing / filing fuel weight distance reports as well.

Yeah, tell me .gov hasn't gotten too big for its purposes.

Most states have some kind of requirements, for licensing and such, for doing business in the state.

At least we haven't reached the bureaucrat's utopian dream that China is pushing for here:
