A big thanks to Andrew R.

Postby carguy4471 on Wed Dec 12, 2007 8:11 am

A couple weeks back i needed to squeeze in a and get my permit on short notice (for work), after calling around Andrew from MADFI was willing to do one with little to no notice.

Not only was a short notice class a savior in my situation, Andrew taught an amazing carry class with next to zero preperation. Every aspect of the class was articulated and taught better than any college professor i've ever seen. To top it all off, Andrew is a great guy, truely an asset to the community.

A big thanks to Andrew R. and MADFI. If anyone is contemplating attending his class, i have every confidence you will not be disappointed. If i'm not mistaken he has one on the 15th, go sign up!!

I took Rothman's class last October and went away feeling I had learned a LOT of information in that day. He never hurried the class along, took the time to thoroughly answer every question, and as you mention, he is a great guy as well. I second your recommendation.

This is the only part I disagree with, Andrew like most firearms instructors, has spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars preparing to properly teach safe techniques to their students.

To build on what IDPA Shooter said. Andrew has probably done that class a large number of times so has some pretty good practice.

You got your training from one of the best. I'll probably take my training from Andrew when I'm up for renewal in 2011. Welcome to the fold!

I try to take a class a year. I took Joel's twice. Next time is going to be Andrew's. After that I am going to take someone elses class from the forum.

It isn't that much time or money, and you learn lots of different things every time.

Good attitude, you can always learn something new from a different instructor.

Just like I bet that most instructors will say that they learn something new, or at least something to think about and reserch from their students in every class. 8-)

I've got a lot of other training to do before I start taking carry classes unnecessarily. It's not as much a time thing as it is a money thing. Yes, I'm a cheapskate...and poor (relatively speaking).

Carry classes are always necessary, training is a perishable skill, practice learning the background information just like you would the shooting portion. You never can tell what you will pick up that will be useful to you.

Some instructors will give you a deal if it an audit situation and you don't need the book, Certificate or shooting.

Thanks for the kind words. I do care a great deal about what I do; I'm glad it shows, sometimes.

Well, I don't know about thousands, but there is indeed a large time commitment involved to do a good job. I'm not convinced I've broken even yet, but I do enjoy what I do.

Commercial message follows: If you want to see for yourself, my next class is Saturday, January 12 in Eden Prairie. Info at http://www.mngun.com. :)

Would you allow me to audit your course, Andrew?

In exchange for a great opportunity to refresh my learning and get a different instructor's perspective, I'd be happy to:

-Give you notes,
-Get embarrassed in front of the class,
-Help out with the shooting qualification in any way I could.
