Defensive Handgun Tactics 1 Course May 11th

Postby Don L on Wed Mar 27, 2013 8:42 am

I'm holding one of my Defensive Handgun Tactics 1 courses on May 11th, 12:30-5:30 at the Monticello Sportsmen Club. The course is a great introduction to holster work and also includes the 3 different mag changes, malfunctions, multiple targets, movement, working with partners, and more. If you're new to holster work or just want a chance to "tune up", this is the course for you. Certificates for the course will be issued. Figure on 300-350 rounds of ammo. The cost for the course is $175.00.

The course is being hosted by Bob Jahn (IDPA Shooter) at the Monticello Sportmen Club. Contact Bob to register.

Feel free to contact myself or Bob with any questions, or for more details.

I am very pleased to host Don's class and assist him in instructing the class. I have some additional details on the class posted here http://www.mnguntrain.com/defensive-pistol-classes/ We now have a purpose built training range at Monticello Sportsmen and can accommodate up to 16 in this class. However, we always have one fully trained range officer for every two persons shooting to provide for safety and one on one feedback as necessary.

This a a great low cost way to get started in Defensive Pistol Shooting. I've trained with Don Larson in John Farman's Advanced Handgun Class and been a student in Don's Defensive Pistol Level 3 a few years back. I therefore know first hand that Don is a great instructor. You can always register and pay online for my classes and the ones I host at http://www.mnguntrain.com/register-and-pay-online/

Want an AR class, how about USPSA training 3 Gun or highly Advanced Defensive training. We have AR classes taught by a retired LEO SWAT trainer, IDPA and USPSA/ISPC World Champion Robert Vogel teaching USPSA techniques and Michael Seeklander, TV star and former director of the federal air marshal training program presenting 3 Gun and Advanced Handgun Defense. All of these classes are local in Forest Lake or at Monticello Sportsmen, the details are here http://www.mnguntrain.com/classes-by-ou ... /?logout=1

I have to say I am surprised to see so few folks registering for Don's class and classes by the other experts Steve Quill, World Champion shooter Robert Vogel, and Mike Seeklander . Forum rules prevent you posting directly, but I'd like to know any issues or concerns at Bob@mnguntrain.com. I suspect the AR\3 Gun classes are ammo based, but if it is something else , let me know please.

Defensive Handgun Tactics 1 Course May 11th

Perfect Class for Permit Holders to Build their Skills and For Shooters to Prepare for Action Pistol Competitions

I am hosting well known local trainer Don Larson of FrontLine Firearms Training and helping him present his 5 hour Defensive Handgun Tactics 1 class. Rather than create a new class, I'm hosting Don who has 3 different Defensive Pistol level classes that he has taught and refined over several years. Don is a highly trained and skilled instructor, I have taken his Level 3 class with Jon and we both thought it was excellent.

In this class Don and I will teach and refine basic holster skills. We will also work on accuracy, 3 different types of reloads, and malfunction clearing. We then wrap up with engaging multiple targets, shooting from different positions and shooting on the move.

Class is Saturday May 11 12:30 to 5:30pm at Monticello Sportsmens Club, Cost is $175 and you will need 250 to 350 rounds of ammunition. Yes you can register on-line at http://www.mnguntrain.com/register-and-pay-online/, ignore the class names, just select the $175 amount and list the date as 5/11.

We have enough folks signed up to ensure we will have this class as scheduled. Join us in Monticello on our new purpose built competition range.

Last call: We have had a good response to Don Larson's initial training class offerring in Monticello. Don will be assisted my me, Benny King and Mary Albrecht. All of us have been trained by and with Don and we will have a lots of hands on coaching and direct feedback. If you are thinking about getting into the steel matches Benny and China host or any of the action pistol shooting sports, this class will give you a solid foundation. Most importantly if you are a new permit holder, this class provides 5 hours of quality training to develop or enhance your carry skiils.

What are the chances you will be hosting this class again this summer/fall? I'm very interested in taking it but the cards aren't quite falling right at the moment for me.

I do not plan to host this class again this year in Monticello, but Don may well offer it at a different location. We attracted only 2 students from the other gun board and none from the this board. This, despite a great location and the other instructors being quite well known and respected in the area. The price is really reasonable, but I know ammo is an issue for many. including me as a competition shooter and trainer.

Don willing, we may offer his Defensive Level 2 class later this summer, if ammo is more available. More later, if we decide to pursue this option.

If there's interest I'll schedule others. Same with a DHT-2. I had three folks that wanted to take the last one and either couldn't get the ammo or didn't want to use what they had. Hopefully things will get closer to "normal" as the year goes on....

Sounds good, thanks for both responses. I was hoping to pick up some more ammo this week at work from our PMC shipment but was only able to get a box. Hopefully I can catch it again during better times, seems like a helluva deal for the money!

I'm on both boards, and my wife and I are both signed up. Did you count us as being attracted by your board posts? ;-) (although it was actually the other board where I saw it first).

Also, I've been seeing some ammo availability improvements, as long as it isn't 9mm!
