Outbreak Omega 4

Postby Joe Camo on Thu Mar 17, 2011 2:42 pm

Had fun last year, might have to check it out again this year. July 9th at a new venue - Ahlman's in Morristown.

Not much on the website yet.

Me & the QSI crew are going to be returning to defend our "Best Squad" title. It will be interesting to see how the new venue works out.

For zombie hunters who want to take a QSI class, track down one of our people at Omega to ask about discounts on our remaining 2011 classes. We've got two scheduled in August: Defensive Rifle and Basic Handgun.

I'll be there. 3rd year. Dragging my Brother-in-Law along too...

A little scared of that actually. He's about as green a shooter as there is. Up until two weeks ago, he'd never dropped the hammer on a pistol and had never fired a semi-auto rifle. Bolt action .22lr only.

He has a new Rem 870 he's bringing and he'll be toting my Taurus 92AF. I had him to Ahlman's and let him run a bunch of reloads through the 92 and one of my AR's.

If anyone thinks he needs a bullet hole anywhere, let me know. He's quasi-family so I should be the one to do it...

Hmmm, is this event worth dragging my wife to? I.e., should I leave her at home?

I went the first year.

Safety nightmare.

I haven't been muzzled so much in my life as I was that day. I amazed there hasn't been an accident yet.

Plus, they were so disorganized I hardly got to shoot any of the events...... Between that and the good old boys network letting their friends ahead of everyone else, I could have gotten in more shooting at home, in my basement, without a firearm.

Other than that, it was a blast!

I won't be back.

I heard the same thing last year, but the Omega 3 looked pretty fun, and someone said they organized it a little better...

Any other opinions?

I was there when Strad attended and he summed it up pretty well, although I might give it another chance. When you get past all the suck, it was kinda fun. I wouldn't bring your wife unless she's a big nerd.

Last year was my first time at this event. Went on Sunday (the last day) and although there were tons of people there, I thought it was run pretty well, given the size & scope of the event. Never had any issues on the rifle, pistol and free-fire lines, but the shotgun lines could have been a bit better controlled and supervised. Enjoyed the jungle walk and house clearing courses (both shotgun).

Best part was the people/costume watching, at least I hope they were costumes ... :?

Hope the new location and courses this year will be as good or better.

Second year was better than the first fro ma safety standpoint. Lines were ok.

Third year had some issues with long lines. Two days and rain on the first day didn't help. Popularity has been doubling each year. Hog roast was yummy.

Ahlman's is a bigger campus than Del-ton/Luth from what I saw two weeks ago. Not sure about the 1-day event. If they double last years, it should mean around 1000-1200 people there. Ahlman's shooters round up handled over 3000. Hog roast and a band are a nice touch.

Women folk... Women are always welcome, but an affinity for Zombies will help. Yes, you are going to get stared at. We're guys. We do that. Some of us will try to keep those of a more rude disposition from getting too out of hand. We apologise in advance. Especially if you are a slim blond dressed in a vinyl cat suit.

I went with a buddy last year and thought it was a waste of time. Was fairly disappointed to find out that there were no scores being kept and the only way to win anything was by random drawing of tickets. The nerd factor was off the charts - more digital multi-cam that I've ever seen in one place.

Pay $5 a stage and stand in line for an hour just to waste ammo = LAME.

I guess the concept of a ZOMBIE themed FUN shoot is lost on some people.

Evidently so. I guess i am not the target market for this. Blasting away at targets while dressed as a post-apocolyptic undead-hunter with no purpose other than blasting away has no real appeal to me. If scores were kept and there was something to compete for, I'd probably be able to get past the zombie goofiness. I can waste ammo anywhere.

If you want to keep scores, go for it. They used to have shot timers and would give everyone their times after running a stage.

Changing out targets, keeping official scores, etc... would make this a week long event with multi-hour waits in line. How fun would that be?

If you want to take a ZOMBIE shoot seriously... It definitely isn't for you.
