Gopher Steel Shoot Oct. 22nd

Postby mflander on Wed Oct 12, 2011 4:12 pm

Not sure if this is in the right forum....

A friend and I will be going to the Steel Shoot coming up, and neither one of us has shot in competition before. I will be shooting a Glock 17 and he will be shooting a Sig .40. I just have a few questions:

Where can I go to read up on the rules and what to know before we show up?
What ammo is recommended to use for 9mm and .40?
I assume we need a gun, holster, mag holsters... what else do we need if anything?
Anything else I need to know or do before showing up?

Thanks ahead of time for the help....

Ohhh **** your gonna be there? :D If you have never done any drawing from the holster get there early so someone can walk you through that stuff. I'll be there on the 22nd, it'll be good to see ya again.

I will try and be a sponge and take in all the advice I can get, and then go home later and sort through the bull**** :). My buddy that is coming with me is an LEO so we'll practice beforehand also. Looking forward to seeing you Brian, been a long time.

Bring enough mags. Slows down the world if you have to reload mags in the middle of stages.

depends on how you shoot! as a general rule, each stage has 5 targets (unless Benny gets cruel) and you do 4 runs on each stage -- so if you don't miss you only need 20 rounds loaded to do a stage... ;) ;) so you might be OK with 3 17s - but if you need an excuse to go get a few more mags, this is a good opportunity to do so. :o I think it's always nice to have a few loaded ones in reserve so I can shoot the breeze with everyone instead of standing around loading mags in between stages. (of course, I usually load them up after each stage anyway, since it doesn't take too long, and then shoot the breeze, but just in case there is a hot topic being discussed it's nice to have plan B)
