The easy part is buying 2 or 3 of these things.

It's a 1939 Izhevsk
Not to give too much away, but I have plans to convert it to left-handed...
Wouldn't it be easier to man up and shoot right handed

Anokamnman wrote:Well after much anticipation... I finally purchased the barrel for Olga. It arrived today. I got home and saw a big box on my front step from Midway. I was like a kid on christmas morning. So this thing is 22" long and is 1.250" diameter. Kind of digging the idea of a 45-70 Bull barrel. lol. Not sure what I will wnd up doing for a barrel profile. I will figure out something cool. Will be updating Olga's Surgery thread as I complete more of the steps. Will be heading to the shop tomorrow to make my own rails on the bridgeport. That will save me $10. I love being a resourceful redneck.

Anokamnman wrote:i will chuck it onto a lathe. use a parting tool on the barrel where it meets with the reciever. only cutting in about .100 as a relief cut. then it should be pretty easy. might have to take you up on your offer dan

Getting it glowing does two things - it makes it grow, which crushes the rust and whatever thread locker they used. And then when the metal cools again it shrinks from its original size, making it a looser fit in the hole.
I'd put a rose bud on what's left of the barrel and get it dull red a couple times, then let it air cool (you'd end up hardening the receiver if you quenched it and might warp it as well), then come back in a couple hours and give it a tug.
As for the contest and assisting others - I'm not allowed to wash my right hand for 20 days and then potentially will have the other hand cut into a week after that. However, I am relatively wide open schedule wise to assist/instruct in other people's house or shop assuming I'm not too doped up to drive. For instance, if Tim had a group up to the business, I could keep a machine or two supervised to increase the productivity of the event.
