Mill some flats on whats left of that barrel and use an impact wrench. If the relief cut doesn't work on mine... Olga will meet my dewalt impact wrench.
Wrap that around your overly muscled left wing and row your dinghy in counterclockwise circles as a result.

There is no barrel left to mill flats on, I am down to a threaded plug of sorts in the receiver. I will be welding a grade 8 bolt to what is left and try hitting it with an impact and hoping for luck.

FJ540 wrote:Given the pot metal consistency of the barrel, I'm thinking there's no heat treat done on the receiver, but I haven't taken a file to one either.

Heat treatment does not always have to mean hardened. If the metal has normalized over the last 68 years I could be taking that away too.

Wish I could work on my mosin today. Had the day off from work and school. Oh well. Will use the lathe at work on saturday. going to attempt removing the barrel and then start threading the new barrel.

And maybe fumble around with whatever we were using.

I have plenty of mills for use on weekends in NW suburbs. A couple lathes, though they all only have 3 or 4 jaw chucks, not bushings. Not so good for threading.
2 of the mills have digital readouts, so any milling work is real easy.
It's available for anyone who needs, as time permits.

We also have a wire and stick welder(I can weld stuff, but it won't look nice), and a hydraulic press(not sure what we could use this for, but I believe it's 350 tons)

My shop has a lot of bar stock, as long as we're only making small parts, the use of material wouldn't be a problem, and a few surface grinders. (I was thinking of making my own trigger, ground to fit, or maybe doing bushings like that other guy)
I could whip up a barrel vise/action wrench in few minutes I think, but I believe other people already have them available.

My skillset is not of a huge use to building a mosin. Basic machining and turning. I've made a few compensators.
But I'm going to bubba the hell out of what I have.
I do have a fairly large variety of drills, mills, taps, countersinks, and counterbores though..

i got some smaller tap and dies, jig saws, sanders - probably a lof of stuff others allready have.

Tim - this is an AWESOME idea!!!

Shippy isn't allowed in the doors without at least a 6 pack of PBR

Hi Folks,

I was directed here from another board.

I like what you're doing! Should be interesting. I'm in Indiana so I can't participate and my mods tend to be mostly internal anyway (triggers with roller bearing pins and such), but I'm watching with interest.

If you all would like, I'll give the winner the pick of one of my sights. If s/he can't use it due to using glass or different sights or whatever, it will go to the runner up who can use it.

Will be watching.

Regards,

Josh

Somebody has to be involved with home brewing....

I'm kinda curious how our shenanigans managed to reach down to Indiana. I know our exploits are well known around here and "feared" at the Brooklyn Park FF.

Smith... Thanks for the offer and welcome to the zo.... Er... I mean board

He has a mosin contest set up, and I saw it on another forum and mentioned it to him.
I'll leave it to him to put up links and what not. Smith, feel free to put up a link to your site.

This dude goes to work whenever he needs to! Work at night so I can watch the 4-year-old while mommy goes and works in the morning, then crash out for a few hours! :D

On here now checking spreadsheets while some sights wash and blue.

Hey, after the kontest is over, you can sell Bubba for some big bucks! :roll:

http://www.armslist.com/posts/332845/mi ... iper-rifle

Did I miss something on this build?

Rifle = $90
Trigger = $100
Stock = ??? $150 (generous)
Bent bolt = $35
Mount w/drill and tap = ??? $100
Scope = $100

So, he's got $500+ into it and is gonna go for broke at $900. Woot! You guys will all be sitting pretty after this thing is over...I can see the Classifieds flooded already! I better start saving.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.
