If I'm the ERSC President, I see an open invitation to anyone on the internet with a battle rifle and some ammo. Actually, rifle not required. This may not be the case here but that is the appearance.

It would be different if Scott knew the organizer and had an idea on the number of attendants.

ERSC is within the city limits of Elk River, operating on a conditional use permit. I'm an ERSC member and I support Scott. He's thinking about safety for the protection and benefit of its members.

Then would not a PM have been in order?

I suspect that with most clubs there are rules and there are procedures to follow. Seems unclear if the OP violated those but if so should probable be dealt with directly and between the club and its member to determine if a violation was occuring and address accordingly.

You know what they say about dirty laundry, if you air it, someone else will smell it.

Well ok, maybe they don't say that cause I just made that up, but they should say it, seems kinda ketchy.

Thanks Joe.
You expressed my concerns well. If I knew the OP, or he had contacted me prior to posting an open invitation on the web for shooters to gather and shoot, I might have responded differently. Nah.

Let me say this you all you keyboard commandos out there: If you want a place to shoot, you had better join a club or two. Quick. Elk River Sportman's Club has 675 members who pay for the range through dues, labor and range attendant duty. ERSC was the first club in the state to meet the latest NRA standards for range construction and operation, which is also the MN state standard. ERSC may still be the only club that does. These members cherish what we have. The club took 40 years to build. Myself and many other members spend as much or more time working at the club as we do in our careers. We, as a private club, are obligated to no one to allow you to shoot without some restrictions. Damn right, we are protective of what we have.

Follow our rules, be respectful, and you will likely be welcomed at the club as a member or a guest of a member. We take in approximately 50 new members each year. http://www.ersportsman.com has more information.

You realize that keyboard commando is a derogatory term, right?

Not a great way to recruit for new members. :?

Jeepers! I go to work and everybody has a $hitstorm. Can you guys please stop baiting Scott? This started as a fun idea and is getting pissier and blown out of proportion by the minute. I'll reach out to activity chair and Scott. At the current head count of 3 members and 3 or 4 guests, I don't think it will be a big deal. If it is, we have other options.

Everybody, please stop the name calling and baiting. It doesn't make points, and more importantly it does not make anybody a bigger or better person. Thank you all. Really.

And peace out 8-)

I hereby apologize to Scott Olson for my childish, flippant remarks.
When we meet, the first round is on me.
