Is anyone that is going planning on dressing up? I will be the clown in full Multicam from head to toe rockin a custom build AR-15 with an Eotech. I think my buddy GrouseMaster will be in old school Tiger Stripe camo.

Hey guys, just joined here.

After a lot of back and forth I am going again this year. I'm a little disappointed in the website and the lack of info on the part of the host. Very difficult to find information in one place and you end up trolling the Facebook page to find any details at all. I personally have never witnessed any safety issues and I have been "overtrained" for safety from my days in Nuclear Security and the unending academy. I did see a few individuals that were obviously first time shooters but that is a good thing and I try to always encourage them.
I think this event is 100% about dressing the part, why else would you go to a "Zombie Shoot"???? It's pretty obviously marketed and advertised as such, so you really shouldn't be surprised to see some of the more colorful 2nd amendment supporters, of which I am definitely one. Come on, I'm planning on carrying my .50ae this year, that's pretty colorful. I mean come on people where else can you do this sort of thing?
If you are an anal score keeping, purity of sport nice haircut kind of shooter then this is not really for you unless you can leave all that behind, come and meet fellow lovers of gun powder and have a really good time where no one takes themselves too seriously. There was a surprising lack of ego's there as well because we are all walking around with our tongue firmly stuck in our cheek :)
come on, it's fun lots of prizes and as far as I know a perfect safety record in 5 years. You don't even have to pay to go, you can come for free, sit back and watch the parade. we don't mind, we all know we look ridiculous

This will be my 2nd year. I was there last year. Even won something.

I guess it kinda sucked the first couple years, but I can vouch it is much improved.

Should be much safer. I didn't see anybody being unsafe last year. Everyone had their chamber flags.

I doubt the option of picking up your brass. You would either have to sift through the grass or make people wait for you. You could probably wait till the end though and take all the brass you wanted, way more than you brought.

I would take the advice of "don't take it too seriously." It's not some tactical training, it's for fun. If you take it too seriously and let the "tacticool idiots" piss you off, it's not going to be fun.

I heard there is going to be a lot more steel targets this year, so you'll know if you hit and won't need to check your targets.

However, in my self-interest, I advise that nobody show up. More shooting and more stuff for me to win at the end. lol.

I went to the first one, and it was a joke. Impossibly long lines and the ROs letting their friends in to shoot first, or repeat stages over and over again while others waited in line made it difficult to shoot any stages, and I spent all day getting muzzled by tactidiots. No opportunity to retreive any brass, none of the stages were scored in any meaningful fashion, and you were unable to check targets on many of them. There were HUNDREDS of people walking around carrying rifles that were either unrestrained, or on a sling, and even though it was required to have a chamber flag showing if not at a shooting station I stopped counting after seeing a dozen rifles with no chamber flag and a closed action being nonchalantly carried through the facility.

The best part of the day was watching some guy dressed like a ninja almost fall off a ladder and impale himself on a sword, and cruising the vendors to see the drastically overpriced fare. Now to be fair, it seems they had a MUCH larger crowd than they were expecting, so that probably had something to do with it.

Unless they have seriously stepped up the orginization and safety (which they may have, but based on reports from the last few...... not so much), I will never go again. I'm AMAZED nobody was seriously injured the first few go arounds.

[/rant]

That couldn't have been the first year, I've made all of them except the first one, and from talking to people the first year was only a couple hundred peopl.....if that. There wouldn't have been long lines if it was the first one.

It's all in good fun......no it isn't a competition, your not scored! It's a FUN SHOOT! Nothing more. It's a chance for people to get out and shoot a variety of their guns in one place, hang out with friends, and talk guns. Maybe win some cool stuff.

Yes, you obviously weren't there. The lines for some of the shooting events were well over an hour long, and there were at LEAST 3-400 people there. Very possibly more. In fact, I think the only event where the lines weren't prohibitively long was a 50 yard range with about 200 paper zombie targets on it. You couldn't even tell if you hit the targets.

Here is a picture of one of the lines. This line went all the way to the building, then into a 4 turn Disney style cattle queue. I talked to the guy directly in line ahead of me later on, and he said it was two hours from the time I cut out of line until the time he got to shoot.

And yes, that was the first one.

I hope your experience is better than mine was, and I certainly hope they have stepped up their safety protocol.

I'm surprised. Did they just not have many shooting lanes then? I think things have imroved as time has gone on, and the event has grown. there are still long lines, I don't think that will change. I heard they will have about 25 shooting stations this year. Safety will always be a concern I guess when you get a large group like that together, but I don't recall anything that stands out in my mind about anyone being unsafe. They try to do what they can, and hope that most have a healthy respect for gun safety.

Hmm finally decided I was going to go to this tonight...went to sign up and found the online registration is already closed and if I choose to try and sign up at the event I will not be eligible for any of the prizes that are firearms and there is no mention either way about any other prizes or giveaways. The main site also fails to have any form of actual information on the type of stages there will be but if you go to the Alhman's site you can find some placeholders and a few scraps of information. The main site also has no start time information but I did find but a dubious Facebook event that claims it is 0800 but who knows...I get it that alot of the people that go to this are tin foil hat types but jeez how will the internet ninjas ever find this place without information online?

Yeah the last day to register and be entered in for the drawings was June 15th. There may be some other give aways though. I just received some info in the mail from DPMS a couple days ago. I scanned it in so you can take a look. As far as the stages go, I have been watching some Youtube videos from past years to get an idea of what they have. If you have any other questions someone here should be able to answer.

I'm looking forward to it. The lines were slow and long up at deltone, but it was still a good time. Think I waited an hour and a half for the ten seconds it took to clear the house in outbreak 3. Got the stroller aired up and ready to go. Hopefully have nice weather again this year.
Proud to be Deplorable.

yes i was at the first one, and i think the numbers took them by surprise. There were very few stages and lots of shooters, I remember wasting a bunch of ammo on the free fire range just throwing lead down range. Then I took a year off and went back when it was at morristown, big difference. Lots of stages, I ended up hanging out around the hand gun stages mostly.
I am baffled by the lack of website information too. In the past they had a prize table were you could see (and day dream) all the guns that were going out and all the prizes, a registration list so you could see which of your buddies signed up, every stage spelled out with ammo counts...this year not so much. A lot of Facebook trolling to get any info. When I finally registered and got my info in the mail it was very helpful as far as start times, early registration, friday dinner.
If it keeps growing like it is, they will have to have a dedicated team just for website stuff. But when push comes to shove they end up pulling off a really good event. The smaller prizes seemed almost unending when you are waiting for the guns, this year according to the mailing they are giving away the guns FIRST and then the smaller stuff,,,Great decision on their parts, a lot of people will be happy if that is the way it works out. And as far as dressing the part, there is a substantial gift certificate for the best dressed so there is a reason to go a little tinfoil hatish too.
Lots of gun magazine people walking around, pictures, articles, industry people, it is really a blast even if you bring just your 22lr's you will have fun.

and if it still doesn't get you going, the gun shop at ahlman's is amazing and you can easily waste a few hours in there.
