My day as a zombie...

Postby Scratch on Fri Oct 05, 2012 11:12 pm

Twas an interesting Friday for me… You might have seen Lacny82’s thread about needing some AR15’s, and some extra's for a zombie movie, seems nobody else responded so it was up to us to do it. Well he and I went down to Hastings and volunteered our time and our rifles to them despite the cold wind.

The movie will be called Zombieland 2 and it was really cool hanging out with Woody Harrelson, Bill Murry, and Emma Stone. They are real down to earth people and I cant wait to go to the preview screening with them for the Mall of America VIP party! I think it was cool that they brought Bill Murry back, and I guess it makes sense, especially once you discover the new plot line of the movie.

Just yanking yer chain…. Yes we went down there, but none of the above actors were there. This was a low budget short film that will be shown at the Lagoon next Wednesday I think. It’s a contest where a bunch of different directors have a certain amount of hours to shoot and edit a short film, and then it’ll get shown and judged. The movie has to be less than 14 minutes long, and will be a zombie/comedy.

The film was being shot at the Little Log House Pioneer Village in Hastings, which was really cool and filled with tons of old vehicles, and buildings. Perfect for a low budget, “B” zombie flick. I brought one of my AR15’s, and an AK47, and Matt brought an AR15 and a tactical 870. The guys down there didn’t know much about firearms at all, and they were all giddy over the firepower we brought. They all wanted to get their picture taken with the evil black guns.

They were very concerned about safety with the guns, and wanted to make sure there was no loose ammo in the gun cases or anything, which there wasn’t. We gave them a crash course in gun safety and handling and they listened carefully. When they were done being used in the scenes, they were handed directly to us from the actors, and great care was made by them so they wouldn’t get scratched or get any fake blood on them.

After we shot the gun scenes, they “zombified” the extras and we got to be part of the “zombie hoard” which eventually got shot down by our own weapons…. No fair!

I was very impressed by their professionalism, and am happy I got the chance to be a part of it. It was… an unusual experience that I wont soon forget.

Anyways… here’s some pics of the days events.

Here’s one of the main zombies all done up and icky like. I could tell the makeup girl did a great job on his wounds... as they made my butt all tingly….

Here’s another “zombie vampire” with the makeup not yet complete… still pretty gross.

Here’s the main character holding my AK47.

Here’s Matt’s 870. Everybody wanted to get a picture of themselves with the shiny scary guns!

I think this was the sound guy holding his very first AK. Ahhh...I remember my first time like it was yesterday...

You can tell it was a low budget film by their hi-tech clapper board!

Here’s the main character, “Shadow” wielding dual AR15’s

Another shot of the guns… mines on the left!

Look at that sweet AK he’s got!

There was also a “sexy zombie” in this film. This actress was not shy about changing in front of anybody either… lets just say her “guns” were as pretty as ours were.
That is, until the makeup crew got to her…

Lots of cool old stuff here too!

This is one of the other lead characters. He wore a different crazy outfit for each scene and it was never brought up through the entire film. He played a slacker druggie and his only lines in the whole thing were “Yeah… Yeah!”

Here’s me as a zombie

And here’s Lacny82 all zombied up

Seriously? That's all?
I found a 5 dollar bill in a pair of pants that have been in the closet for months. ;)

I've heard of 48 hour film festivals... Sounds like a lot of fun for everyone except for the "sexy zombie" gal...
I wore 2 T-shirts, a fleece, and a windbreaker today.

Consider me jealous...
