ETA: Strad, you were supposed to wait a couple of minutes to let me post this first......

Hey you guys, you can not just become a drop off site......

I have sent the appropriate contact and program information to Strad. It includes all of the hows and whats to:
1) become a sponsor,
2) establish drop off sites (including collection boxes, posters, buttons, etc.) and
3) how to setup and register an event..................

Allright! one week into collection, and we already have over one hundred dollars (between cash and PayPal) but no toys!! That's all right however, there is plenty of time left. I realize that with a 20% decline in the markets over the last week, and imminent doom projected by the nay-sayers, donating toys sounds somewhat trivial, but believe me, an extra 5 or 10 dollars, or a $6 toy could make a huge difference in a child's life.

For those of you wanting to donate toys or cash, I will be at the North Breakfast tomorrow, and can collect! :D

Glad to hear you're going to be @ the breakfast tomorrow, I want to donate, but have this thing about paying fees to PayPal when I really don't have to.

Understood, I have the paypal simply as a convenience. In a perfect world all the donations would be toys!! :D But since the world is far from perfect, we have to figure out a way to turn cash donations into toys. I was thinking that we could have a MNguntalk (along with the other forums if they choose to participate) shopping spree with the children of forum members. I think it would be great if the kids got to pick out toys for other kids. Any thoughts on this? Might bring a current perspective on the world of toys for some of us, seeing as I grew up in the era of Lincoln Logs and Legos. Things have changed a bit in 30 years  Simon Says probably doesn't have the same zing as it once did.

ETA $170 is a great start! Kudos to all of you!

Please, please don't take my last post as a criticism on setting this up on PayPal. I understand and I also think it's absolutely wonderful what you and everyone else is doing. :D
I'm usually quite good hitting the sales and also plan on picking up a few things!

Not at all!! Many people have reasons for not using paypal, or other online payment sites (paypal especially). It doesn't matter to me how the toys get to their destination, as long as they get there. :D

That would be great, if someone would offer to hold on to them....... That saturday is my Nephew's Baptism. If I can go to the Batism, I will not be at the breakfast.

$253 an counting!!

We are coming closer to the end of the drive, well not really, but a sense of urgency usually helps these types of things along. Last day for to dropoff is Dec. 22nd. With that being said I''d like to get the donations in much sooner. Toys are distributed on the 23rd and 24th, and to get them in on the 22nd and make the task of sorting and delivering that much more tedious seems counterproductive.

I am going to set a goal for us. I would love to see either a total of $500 in paypal and cash donations, or $400 in cash and PP, and 10 unwrapped, new toys by November 15th. At that time we, as a group of those who are interested can decide how to make the donation, wheter it is part cash, part toys, all one or all the other, and have a seasonal celebration at David Slam's Area 52 after the dropoff.

I personally would like to see the donation made in toys, but it would be a little extra effort on our end, tuning cash into toys. It would be fun though, and we can get the kids involved.

Soo with that bring said, make a dontaion, and give a suggestion. Let's make this thing bigger than the goal!!! :cheerleader2:

This evening the Oakdale Gun Club board of directors was presented with a proposition to participate in this MnGunTalk Toys for Tots program as a part of their community outreach program. In a unanimous vote they decided to participate with a $300 gift. Additionally, they are sending out 1,000 plus news letters to members to participate by donating toys at the Toys for Tots donation box in the gun club check-in center. So Strad you need to contact me about the check and getting one of the donation boxes and a few posters set up.

So I will say two things:

a) Any members that need to sight in a gun for deer season, please consider the public sight in days at the Oakdale Gun Club http://www.oakdalegunclub.org/ or at least send the Secretary a thank you note at d_d_wilhelm-AT-q-DOT-com...............

b) If any of you know managers, staff, or board members at any gun club, gun shop, or other gun related business (or any business), please consider talking to them about either a donation to the MnGunTalk Toys for Tots program or to set up a collection box for same.....................and contact Strad.......
