Long shot here...

Is anyone from around here driving south to see the total eclipse, and maybe have room for a stowaway? I'd share costs...

I don't have a telescope but it's something I'm thinking of looking into.

Wife and I are driving down to KC on Sunday, then back north 40 miles to St. Joseph on Monday morning to watch. I was 5 years old when the last one happened, and I have no idea where I'll be in 7 years for the next one.

You can use this Time Magazine tool to see what the eclipse should look like from whatever location you happen to be. Also shows the timing. Seems like here in central MN it will be fairly close to a total eclipse.

Jdege, I'm not sure I understand the point of your cartoons. Do you have something to say on the topic?

IF as of Saturday the weather looks like it's going to hold down near Kansas City, I was planning to make a long weekend of it (and I hope Saturday is early enough; they're already talking about the biggest traffic jam in history). The problem is that lodgings and even camp grounds anywhere near the eclipse path may already be booked solid. I'm prepared if necessary to live out of my car for three days, but I'm not sure two people could.

The last time I saw it, I was in Miami, and wore welders glasses to view it. I hope we get to see at least part of it here.

Anybody know where you can buy solar eclipse glasses or #14 welding lenses in the cities? Turns out I may be down in the area after all.

ETA: NASA says 12 is the minimum for viewing. Found some 12's

"A million out-of-state travelers expected to pack Missouri roads for solar eclipse"
http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/ar ... rylink=cpy

Expect Missouri roads to be busier than normal the days leading up to the solar eclipse — just how busy remains to be seen.

More than a million out-of-state visitors will pack Missouri’s roads over the four-day weekend, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Stopped in northern Iowa. Black clouds further south and was too delayed to get to the path of totality. Looks pretty cool so far.

Made it down to Nebraska and saw the totality. A partial eclipse is really cool, but the few minutes of totality was amazing beyond description. Can't wait until 2024. 8-)
