Post - Bill's Shooters Show

Postby onebohemian on Fri Sep 07, 2007 8:05 pm

I'm starting a new topic for this thread about how the show went and what people liked or didn't like because the lunch thread is already too long.

O.k., I went to Bill's this afternoon to see if anything would jump out at me. Left with only a bottle of militec-1 oil, but did see one especially nice thing. (By the way, congrats to you guys who have posted your new purchases in other topics. Good choices, one and all.)

I was surprised to see the LMT rep in the basement of Bill's. He said Bills was already stocking LMT's new complete AR15s. I didn't realize anyone in the Cities would be selling them. The rep said $1600 was the going rate but I talked with a dealer out of Ohio when the rifles were released a few months back that said he's selling them for $1250. Anyway, if you have a chance to study this rifle, do so. It's right across from the DPMS table. Puts their products to shame. LMT is very good stuff.

Oh, by the way, if you talk to the younger S&W rep., don't necessarily believe what he's telling you. I asked him if I could break down the AR15 he had on his rack to inspect the bolt. He said sure. When I got the bolt out, it was clear that the carrier was the old CMT unit S&W put in their rifles when they were first introduced. The gas keys weren't properly staked and S&W has been swapping them out for new LMT BCGs when people send the rifles in for repair. (All new manufactured 15Ts and 15As since about Jan. 1 2007 are supposed to have new LMT BCGs in them.) Anyway, before I had a chance to say anything about the BCG in this particular rifle, the guy started telling me to look at how well staked the gas key was and that S&W does a great job staking. I put his rifle back together and walked away. Wish I could moonlight as a S&W rep. at local shows. I surely know more about their products than that guy did, and all of my knowledge simply comes from reading the net. I'd make V.P. in a month if I had the in-house training S&W must put its reps through.

Finally, the only other thing I wanted was an AR15 chamber/bore brush. Bills didn't have one. Worse yet, both of the sales guys I had to ask to help me track it down didn't know what I was talking about at first, and then concluded Bills didn't carry them. That doesn't sound right to me. Oh well. Back to ordering stuff from Brownells and Midway.

Little background. I seldom listen to local radio, but yesterday(Friday pm), I was around town and had Soucheray on. Several times they went to their guy at Bills. I was really great to hear them talk about shooting and the event at Bill's like it was something that it was, a normal part of life. So, I wondered, does WCCO have someone there? I switched over to the evil neighbor for a while and all I got was DFL Don and what ever drivel he was talking about, I think it was something about why no one is excited about the Viqueens season. This is probably not news to most of you, but, it was to me, not the evil neighbor, but that this was so mainstream for KSTP. I thought it was great.

I am betting that it was a paid appearance by KSTP, it seems that all their remotes are at places that buy ads on their station.

I am not saying this is wrong, but rather pointing out that if the station/personality was not being paid he/she would be in their chair at the studio. :)

It was good to see the good media exposure though.

Bill's has Chamber & upper reciever brushes, they're on the wall by the ammo counter in the front of the store. And I would bet money that the KSTP show up was part of a hubard sales person doing a little kiss ass for some more advertising purchases.

Radio stations all sell remote broadcasts; it's just another advertising product. Spot ads , remotes, sponserships of programs, contests etc.

Usually remotes are pretty effective for a special event.

The S&W guy was really annoying. He wouldn't leave the Beretta guy alone (he thought he was being funny, but he wasn't) and was just obnoxious in general.

I got to try out several guns and enjoyed the experience. The staff upstairs answered a few different questions I had and were friendly and helpful.

That's what I figured. They have to have them somewhere. Once I explained what a chamber/bore brush was to them, the two employees looked up front and toward the top of the stairs but couldn't find what I wanted. I should have tracked down SquibJoe or one of the regulars.

onebohemian,
is this the gun your writing about? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... m=79949822
If so, is it legal here with the 16' barrel? Also, what would this gun be used for? And no I'm not on Al Franken's staff, I've always been curious as to the use of the rife.
Thanks

My Bushmaster A3/M4 has a 14.5" barrel with a perm attached flash suppressor 1.5" bringing it up to the min 16" barrel length. They are legal

Uses... They are very fast pointing and great for Home defense (no close neighbors) I've used mine in 3 gun events (but I need more work on the 200 yard shots). I switch up between my Mini-14 with a Trijicon Reflex and my Bushmaster for foxes accosting my chickens. My Bushmaster is much more reliable then my Mini-14 but one can't beat a Triijicon in low light!

I have a 7mm Mag if I really want to reach out and touch something...
