ssax,
The one thing you cannot do is to be unsafe out there...even in the interest of competing. This is a very low-key competition. Basically everyone just tries to beat the girls who show up...and the guys you ride up with. Don't come up and try to shoot faster than you can do safely! We want everyone to leave whole and happy.

Selurcspi, if you get up on your roof and look east, you'll see some big buildings off on the horizon, even bigger than grain silos. That is the city.

have a feeling that I am going to show up to both and I'm gonna be the only guy under 30 there...

Anybody my age going.

Although I can't make it to this one, I've been to the last two and i'm only 22. They are a lot of fun, just have fun and don't worry about how you do

Here is my predicament:

I have only shot about 1000 rounds through a G23 and sold it, I'm not a very good shot but I can hit COM reliably, I just picked up my G19 today and haven't shot it yet.

I have yet to do any holster draw stuff.

Even though I learn quick and know firearm safety, I would feel like a tool trying to compete at all against anyone or in front of anyone hahaha.

What are your recommendations? Just watch or try to compete AKA just try to hit stuff. :)

You will want to shoot.Nobody is really all that concerned about scores. It is mainly about getting better. It is an excellent learning experience and a good time.[/quote]

Go thru the safety brief see what your comfort level is and if you decide to shoot just go S-L-O-W because you can't miss fast enough.

Thanks guys for all the info. I'm pretty sure I'm going. I just need to find a holster. I'm looking for serpa level 2 if anyone knows any place I can get one locally; sounds like a lot of fun. I guarantee I will place last... but it doesn't bother me none. I just want to meet some folks from here and have a good time... maybe find a local close to me (East St. Paul) that I can go shoot with that knows the ropes. I don't know anybody out here or in WI where I'm originally from (Hudson).

For the holster, check Streichers.

The public can buy holsters from there. They may have what you are looking for. Call them first to save yourself the trip if they don't have one in stock.

If I remember, I'll throw mine into the range bag before heading out there.

I am safe with my firearm. Always point down range, I am ALWAYS aware of what I am doing. I'm no expert, but I am learning. I would definitely shoot at my level and not act like I'm not on the lowest rung like I am. :) Finger off the trigger till I'm ready to fire, etc. I know that's not much but it's the basics. That is why I would definitely go to that intro to it so I can see if I should even get into it. I am very aware.

Thanks for the info. You guys rock.

Does anyone know how the road construction currently is coming in from the north--I may have to take a long round trip that ends in coming from the north...and judging by the last time I came in that way (last summer) I don't ever want to do that again! But I may be stuck this year having to come in that way. Info please?!

I don't doubt that in the least.... But hearing that timer beep and the fact that there are thirty people around (it will feel that everyone is watching you, but in reality they are all talking about what they had for breakfast) has a funny way of cranking up the adrenaline. People do funny things, and become forgetful under these conditions. Just ask the 8+ people that forgot the manditory reload on the man v man stage last month.
