I'm going to go to another one, but not any more this year. Now that you are a certified redcoat killer, are you going to another one?

I'm sure I will go to another one. Maybe even just for the Sunday portion. One that is close enough so I can just drive up and back that same day. It's too much cheap fun not to. Kind of reminds me of my old girlfriend.

I guess I'm not really clear on what the competition is. I see it's some type of a riffle shoot with .22's and centerfire is allowed, but which calibres and what exactly compromizes the competition? :?:

Look again - it is training, not a competition...

The only competition would be with yourself. Trying to shoot a higher score, tighter groups etc.

I shot a 203 Saturday night on my own with no stopwatch and no warm-up. I am thinking about heading up for just the Sunday shoot.

Be nice to get that patch this year. ;) I was tossing around the idea of going up Sunday as well.

In Winona they did a 4 minute AQT. Load 4 mags with 10 rounds each. Start standing and go through the entire AQT in 4 minutes with no stopping between each stage other than reloads, position changes etc. If you shoot a 210 you made it. A couple of the instructors said it was also a good way to practice on your own without having to time each individual stage.

I personally like to shoot the 4 minute AQTs myself. It's just that most people don't come equipped with the 4 magazines required to shoot it. It does kind of throw the suggested 400-500 rounds per weekend out the window when you do a few of 'em. You can end up closer to 700+. But then you're there to shoot, right? :D :D :D

I'll be there! Hope a few of you can make it.

I'd love to go, I just only have a bolt-action Marlin .22LR - 7 round magazines, have 2.

Once I have fundage for a 10/22 I'll be able to attend...

Take a look at the Marlin 795. I think it uses the same magazines as your current rifle. Just need tech sights and a sling you are good to go. The extra mags are nice, but not really necessary for the clinic. You have time to reload your mags between stages. You could even get by without the tech sights if you had to.

QC

Don't get hung up on equipment. The shooting is only half the program anyway, but if you really want to go for that Rifleman Patch bring whatever you have. I've seen "the patch" earned with everything from lever action .22s, to tube fed bolts and semi-autos. And that includes a ton of them with stock sights. Just bring what ya got, learn the basics, hear the history, and come back again next year (with a few friends) to fine tune your skills.
