Mini 2-gun instead?

Postby Payne on Thu Jun 10, 2010 10:47 am

Foks, I was unsure where to post this at so I thought this was as good a place as any.

The following is a copy of a letter Randy has put out explaining a situation the Del-Tone-Luth Gun Club is facing:

Friends of Del-Tone;
On June 8th I was informed by the Zoning dept of Sherburne County that we are in violation of our 1995 Conditional Use Permit (CUP) that was initiated before I purchased the Gun Range in 2002, that CUP allowed for Del-Tone to operate a Rifle range /gun club/range.
The county has taken the position that the CUP does not allow for Handguns to be shot on the range even though they have known for years /decades that handguns have been always used at Del-Tone.I have retained an attorney to assist in this matter and to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
In the meantime , with regret , we must abide by the order and disallow all handgun shooting until further notice.
Rifles and shot guns are still allowed on the various ranges, just handguns/pistols/revolvers are not allowed until we can sort it out.
I would ask for your patience and support ,as this issue moves forward, I would also hope that you can support me at the township meetings and County Board hearings as we try to get the CUP revised for handguns.
I apologize for this course of action but we have no choice at this point, I will keep you advised through our website , letters and by all means please feel free to call the clubhouse.
Regards
Randy Luth
President Del-Tone/Luth Gun Range

Del-Tone-Luth had a Mini 3-gun shoot planned for this Sunday June 13th. I am suggesting they still have a mini 2-gun match using rifle and shotgun and not doing anything with the handguns. I would like to participate in this as a show of support to the Club and to Rany Luth who has done so much for the shooting sports. I would also like to have a large group show up just to show the anti's that we support this club, and countless other clubs in the area, that are all just one stray bullet away from possible shut down.

If you are still interested in coming for some fun shooting on Sunday, post here or call the Gun Club to let them know your interest so that they still have the shoot.

Why couldn't this have happened last month when I forgot my pistol ammo at home and had to buy factory ammo at the clubhouse? ;)

Just kidding. This blows. But, I'll still be there. (unless I need an Ark to get there)

I hope it gets straightened out before the TRI-Gun.
Yeah, but I shoot with THIS hand.

As a business person I wonder how does anyone buy a business and not make sure the proper paper work for code compliance is in place. I hope for the best for them but they honestly have noone to blame but themselves.

I wonder if he had assistance with his pre-purchase due diligence.

Could have been one of those things......you know....how many times have you gone to 'the rifle range', knowing darn well you were shooting your pistol or going to use the pistol part of the range (as everyone knows it as).

I have a feeling that this one of those loop holes, where the words Rifle Range was used......now some anti gunner on the county board is going....heyyyyy!!!!, it says rifle, not a thing about pistol!!!

Randy dosen't let much get by him....he didn't build DPMS up like he did by over looking things.....this is most likely a small 'oops' and when it comes before the county, it'll be starightened out. The club generates a lot of revenue for that county with it's matches, (people stayin in motels, eatin out) and they'll need to look at that too.

And sadly, yes.....it affects the Ruger Rimfire Regional too. I posted the following on that topic too:
Well.....just like the mini 3 guns at Del-Tone/Luth presently becoming mini 2 guns; I can not promise that the Ruger Rimfire Regional being held up at the club is going to be any different. I've not been able to talk with Randy about whats been going on, but I have read the letter. Kind of a bummer to say the least!! I know that Randy is going to working hard on resolving this issue.

This match will still be held....and will still have a great prize table. We will still have 7 COF's and 212 rounds minimum. At this point, I don't know if the legal wrangling will be over about the 1995 CUP and pistol use at the Del-Tone/Luth Gun Club. Plan on bringing your rifle and pistol.....you may just end up leaving the pistol in your car. But if this is all over.....plan on using both.
