The fourth annual Pat Cannon has a Chance Steel Shoot

Postby selurcspi on Sat Jul 02, 2011 2:32 pm

July 16th, or two weeks from today.

I'm posting this early, to remind all of you auto shooters that you need to go and buy a revolver, speedloaders (Midway has a special right now) and a holster. Really guys, this is the pefect opportunity to convince your wife you need a revolver :D :D

OK. What's needed
This a supposed to be the once a year Revolver steel shoot......Bring a REVOLVER!...... .38, 41, 44, 45, will do the job.
If you don't bring a revolver you can still shoot, but we'll ask you to download your mags to a max of six shots in the gun (1 in the pipe & 5 in the mag or 6 in the mag)

The Man V Man will be in 2 separate ladders, one for autos and one for revolvers. Depending on the number of shooters we have, I may allow revolver shooters to be in both ladders so they can kick a little Auto Butt.

Holster, not needed for a Tyro, but you cannot shoot Man v Man without one. The trigger MUST be covered.
Round count, in a perfect world 100 would suffice. If you have the slightest idea you might miss, bring more....lots more. I don't miss much but I still bring 200
Hearing protection, if you want to be able to talk with your grandkids bring it, learning sign language at 50 isn't easy.
Eye Protection, good quality sunglasses, safety glasses or prescription glasses are MANDATORY, they should wrap around the side or have side panels.
Think of your shooting glasses as your American Express Card, don't leave home without them. We're shooting at Steel, bullets shatter, pieces of them bounce.
Clothes...This is Minnesota, bring snow clothes, rain gear, sunscreen, shorts....you get the picture...be a boy scout.
Hydration, bring something to drink, it may be hot (or cold) so bring water or something else. (personally I don't consume caffeine when shooting it gives me the shakes)
Food, the town is six miles from the range and there are no facilities on site, bring some lunch, you might get hungry otherwise.
Start Time, Setup will be at 8:30, Shooting will start at 9:30.
COF, Four stages, each of 4 strings with the best three times to count. The winner will be the one with the lowest total time for the 12
$10 for Non Members, $5 for Members. (Gopher Campfire Club Members)
Membership has gone up this year, Annual membership dues are: $35 for the Calendar Year. (Still a bargain even in July)

The only revolver I own is a .22lr. I don't think that will work. I will be bringing my G17, hopefully I'm not the only person not shooting a revolver.

I'll be there, unless an act of god gets in the way. Trying to drag my dad out.

I think I'll bring a 6" wheelie to this one. Hopefully the longer sight plane will make up for slower draws.......

The 1911 shooters will notice what difference exactly?

Seriously though, actually bought a revolver today. Had been considering one for a while - this was the impetus to do so. Now I have two weeks to master the damned thing. NO PROBLEM!

It would probably work pretty good for ricochets.

Just wondering, can you have 7+ shot revolvers fully loaded?

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, since I've been using my 8 shot the last couple years for the July shoot! (but it hasn't been an advantage for me!!! trying to line up all 8 of those little pointy things into those 8 holes just isn't something that happens fast...)

Seeing as the weather is likely to be sunny and hot, it would be nice if those of us that have pop-up shelters bring them along so that people have a place to get out of the sun.

If we get enough of them, we can also set them up over the shooting positions to give the RO's some sun relief.

So, who all is going to bring one besides me?

I don't have one so I don't know if I have any say in it, but here it goes.
I think they should be set up over the shooting positions 1st and if there is enough then were people can hang out under them. I feel thagt is a good way to thank the ROs. If it wasn't for them the shoot wouldn't happen.

I'll bring my pop up.

Just made up 500 rounds of pussified .38 special, so I have enough for Jackson to miss fast enough to keep Pat on his toes  . Need to find something strong enough to knock over a man v man plate.......

What was said about 45 Badger during the April steel shoot, ""You look like a tactical lumberjack" - MrVvrroomm 4/16/11 steel shoot.

And we now have a picture of that.
