Also, we have decided to couple a charity aspect to this event. $10 from every participant will be redistributed, we havn't decided on who/what to donate to yet so if you have any good ideas, post 'em up and we will decide.
Here we go:
1. Rule one above all else – this is a friendly game. This supersedes any other issue. When in doubt or conflict, refer to rule one.
2. In the spirit of Communism, each entrant will volunteer $15 so that the Ministry of Bubba may provide prizes to bask in the glorious triumph of our noble spirit the day of the event. $10 will be redistributed to the workers (in the form of a charitable donation to a group as yet TBD).
3. In addition to the judging on the event date, a separate category of “coolest Bubba Gun” (or the workers choice award – remember, it’s ALL about the workers

more than one week after the close of the contest. All other scoring will be done by “judges” TBD at the event. Save your conspiracy theories for when my tinfoil hat comes back from the cleaners, this is a friendly competition.
4. At contest close, entrants will send pics of their creations to an organizer with the honor system promise not to do any further mods to the gun until the event.
5. No professional gunsmith work is allowed – see also rule 6. However, if you’re a gunsmith and enter, you are not banned from aiding others with their guns – you cannot charge or trade and you must be sure that you are teaching as you work just as anyone else would be obligated by the concept of this project.
6.Builder must be involved in all phases of construction. No paying/trading for work you didn’t do yourself. You MUST be involved in the process of whatever it is so that you learn about it and can explain to another person the ins and outs of the undertaking. Example: you go to your buddy’s house to make/do something
and he teaches you about the process and you get do work the machines a little to understand how the process goes. When you leave, you can explain in detail to someone else how much work is really involved and what kind of materials/tools you would need to do the job. Congratulations, you learned something. General
guideline – if you got your hands dirty and know HOW AND WHY it happened, you worked on it.
7. No price limit is set; however dollar amount of project will impact scoring. One of the underlying tones in this project is go get away as cheap and easy as possible and if you don’t have the budget/ability to buy it to make it yourself in true bubba fashion. Refer to scoring system below for ranking according to dollar amount
spent. Store bought or professionally manufactured goods are tallied at what a reasonable price would be for the item used on the forum. Homemade items will be tallied at the cost of the raw materials since we all know the workers do not get paid for their labor, they only work for the glory of Mother Russia (or in this case, Mother Bubba). Again, refer to rule one for clarification.
8. Rifle used for project must be a Russian (or equivalent design manufacture) Mosin Nagant. If you want to use a $300 Finnish Mosin, knock yourself out
and butcher away. We strongly recommend that the stock rifle be under $100 to comply with the spirit of this project and protect your wallet from unneeded
beatings.
9. Guns MUST be function tested/safety checked prior to judging. No safety checks will be allowed the day of the event. You are responsible for making sure
whatever you modified works as expected.
10. NO ENTRIES will be accepted which have been modified or altered in a manner that compromises the safe operation of the firearm regardless if you shot it and it “seems OK”. Anyone involved in this project may raise a legitimate safety concern prior to functional firing. Modifications that will be automatically disqualified and not allowed to shoot include but are not limited to:
a. NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE SAFETY MECHANISM ARE ALLOWED. YOUR RIFLE MUST STILL HAVE AN OPERABLE SAFETY. DO NOT REMOVE IT.
b. Alterations which increase the pressure exerted on the rifle chamber
c. Barrel alterations which may interfere with the flight path of the projectile leaving the barrel (muzzle breaks must be safety checked prior to firing at the event and be of
robust design to prevent collapse/blockage of the flight path during firing). If it’s wobbly, really thin walled, or just plain doesn’t look like a good thing, you ain’t lightin’ it up.
d. Removal of material from the firing pin and/or bolt components connected to firing pin. This may lead to light strikes or other more serious malfunction
e. Drilling and tapping holes/ports in the chamber section of the barrel
f. Addition of spikey or sharp features to the stock or any area of the weapon that could cause injury to shooter or bystanders when fired. (i.e. don’t put a bayonet vertically
through your stock for when it’s used as a club. I know when someone said this in my presence it was a joke, but just to be sure I’m reminding you to stop a minute and think
these things through.)
11. Organizers of the event reserve the right to refuse any weapon for any reason the day of the event upon inspection. There will be no exceptions to the safety rule. Organizers have final say at their discretion.
12. All participants will allow inspection of their weapon prior to firing by any other person who chooses to participate.
13. No guarantee expressed or implied is made that if person is allowed to fire their weapon that consent/approval has been given by event organizers as to the safety of the weapon. Builder is SOLELY responsible for the effective and safe operation of his/her firearm and organizers/judges accept no liability or responsibility for negative results from your participation in this project. You will be required to sign a waiver to participate in the shoot off event.
14. Deadline for entry: December 31st 2011. You don’t have to have your rifle by then, just be entered into the competition. No late entries allowed.
15. End date for working on the project: MAY DAY!!!!! May 1st 2012. What better day to celebrate the workers accomplishments!!! Pictures of all work must be submitted to an organizer by this date. Participants may not work on the project after the end date in between the event date. Remember, this is a friendly game. Play nice.
16. Karkov Kup Event Date: 3 to 4 weeks after May 1st. Location will be approx. 90 miles north of the metro area.
Event Scoring Criteria
Must be able to be safely shot
fires safely: 10 pts
club grade only: 3 pts
cannot be used as gun or club: 0 pts.
A gun is meant to be shot. However, even if it doesn't go bang, you can still use a Mosin as a club. 3 points for club grade gun. Modifications/accessories can't interfere with the basic notion that it's a gun.
3 shots on a pie plate @ 50 yds
score: 3,6,or 10
Points awarded for each hit. (Note: you don’t need a scope to do this so people can stop complaining about glass.)
creativity of modifications or "bubbaness"
score 1 to 25
Subjective category: as quality of mod increases, points decrease. Inventiveness or creative use of object awards points. Home rigging of an easily purchased add on is awesome and should be taken into account. Builders will thoroughly explain all mods and work that went into it for the judging team. (If you can’t explain how it got there, you get zip.)
Money Spent
Less cash, more inventiveness, more points!
under $100: 12 pts
under $200: 10 pts
under $300: 4 pts
$400+: 1 pt
tacticool accessories
score 1 to 3
tacticool is of no concern to functional communist design. Low scoring aspect but give credit for the effort. i.e., Cheap laser = 1 pt but a cool homemade rail could get the 3 points. Call this category the extra credit portion if you will.
