The First Bang Ping of 2014

Postby selurcspi on Sun Mar 30, 2014 1:16 pm

April is all but upon us, there are 20 days to the first Steel Shoot so I wanted to wake everyone up and get all of you thinking about shooting steel again this year.

OK. What's needed? Just like the Second rule of gunfights states......Bring a Gun!...... 9mm, .38, 41, 44, 45, will do the job.

Holster, not needed for a Tyro, but you cannot shoot Man v Man without one. The trigger MUST be covered. Mag carriers are a big help, also we recommend you bring 4 magazines. If you don't have sufficient magazines, bring a friend with an Uplula.

Round count, in a perfect world 100 would suffice. If you have the slightest idea you might miss, bring more....lots more. I don't miss much but I still bring 200

Hearing protection, if you want to be able to talk with your grandkids bring it, learning sign language at 50 isn't easy.

Eye Protection, good quality sunglasses, safety glasses or prescription glasses are MANDATORY, they should wrap around the side or have side panels.
Think of your shooting glasses as your American Express Card, don't leave home without them. We're shooting at Steel, bullets shatter, pieces of them bounce.

Clothes...This is Minnesota, bring snow clothes, rain gear, sunscreen, shorts....you get the picture...be a boy scout.

Hydration, bring something to drink, it may be hot (or cold) so bring water or something else (non-Alcoholic).

Food, the town is six miles from the range and there are no facilities on site, bring some lunch, you might get hungry otherwise.

Start Time, Setup will be at 8:30, Safety Briefing will start at 9:30, if you are not there for the safety briefing, I'm sorry but you will not be able to shoot the match.

COF, Four stages, each of 4 strings with the best three times to count. The winner will be the one with the lowest total time for the 12 runs.

$15 for Non Members, $10 for Members. (Gopher Campfire Club Members)
NRA, MADFI, MN DNR, Certified Instructor

I'm looking forward to this, too many days of hibernating the last few months.

This event gives me something to come home too, besides my dogs. I'm currently sitting in an outdoor restaurant watching the sunset over the carribean. Diving in the morning, a couple of margaritas in the evening, life is good.

Sadly, I don't have a holster for MvM. I will have to make due with my HK I suppose. :)

Only if Benny and China relax the 2-10 line rule for low mass, low velocity, non spin stabilized projectiles. Those things take a wicked curve about 8' downrange. It is a hand loaders dream though.

Just got back from gopher after a bit of practice on some steel and to ring out my new rig for the April Bang-Ping.
Have to say the bays are looking good and as long as we don't we don't get to much rain between now and then it's going to be a go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the superstitious of those amoung us, I truthfully knocked on wood before I sent this.

Sorry, was just at the pistol bays. Popped over to the 50 meter
22 range to see how it faired over the winter and that was looking good also.
