Largest Gun Show

Postby jfwandrn on Tue Jan 27, 2009 7:06 pm

What is the largest gun show coming up this spring in the Twin Cities area? I'm hoping there's one that a lot of the different manufacturers show up at. Including both firearms and accessories.

Thanks

The biggest I know of is the March 21-22 show at the State Fair COLISEUM.

+1, come early, plan to stay late and walk all day! Lots to look at and lots of good folks to talk to about our favorite hobby.

Yeah, but don't take pictures of the guy with the table full of nazi stuff, a good friend of mine learned the hard way that taking pictures at these events is a really big no-no

Yeah, I don't know about you, but doing anything "The Hard Way" at a gun show sounds like a bad idea(neat to watch I bet, but still a bad idea).

Well, apparently they are a little camera shy, and I can't say I blame them, especially the guy selling all the nazi stuff. As far as the hard way..... there was a lot of yelling and collar grabbing, and my buddy got an invitation to get escorted outside and given a cameraphone suppository. He graciously declined. I'm not sure if it was the guy running the booth or a buddy of his, but he certainly wasn't happy.

The imagery that statement evoked was priceless... Note to self: No camera.

Stuff. Guy just happened to be in the way of the stuff. There was a flag draped over the table that said buddy wanted a pic of for some reason. Either that, or he thought the guy was hot. I'm not quite sure.

So even though the intent was to photograph the stuff, the guy was bent about being in the picture? I guess that's a little more understandable. I ask because I've seen some very paranoid people really freak out when you do something like snap a photo of a gun in a store, or take out a piece of paper and start writing on it.

I was in Bill's in Lilydale once years ago and saw what looked like might be a pretty collectible M1 Carbine for a decent price. I took out a small notebook and started writing down some subcontractor codes on some of the parts I could see so that I could go home and look them up in my tables. The guy behind the counter absolutely freaked, ran over and said, "WHAT ARE YOU WRITING??? YOU'RE NOT WRITING DOWN SERIAL NUMBERS ARE YOU????" and kicked me out of the store without waiting for a reply. Bill Penny was still the owner then, and I called him and asked him WTF??? He acted pretty apologetic (pretty rare occurrence if you knew him). Don't know if he ever yelled at the guy, but I never saw him there again. Gun store people can be pretty weird. It seems a lot of that type are out of it now though.

I have used my camera a few times at the show to capture my booth before the public was let in. I have been asked by the guys in charge to put it away nicely and that some of them thing only negative things will come around if pictures of what is inside get out. I have had many people take pictures with their camera phones of the surplus rifle spread out on my tables.
