PRESS RELEASE
EMMER INTRODUCES “FIREARMS FREEDOM ACT”:
Legislation will protect Minnesota firearm owners and manufacturers from federal overreach

ST PAUL – State Representative Tom Emmer [R-Delano] today introduced the “Firearms Freedom Act,” legislation that will protect firearm owners and manufacturers in Minnesota from federal government restrictions on the lawful exercise of Second Amendment rights.

“For far too long elected officials and unelected bureaucrats at the federal level have passively forgotten or actively neglected the Tenth Amendment that guarantees rights not enumerated in the Constitution be left to the individual states,” said Rep. Emmer. “The willful disregard of the Tenth Amendment in relation to a citizen’s right to bear arms isn’t the only constitutional infringement that we should be worried about, but it is one that has been singled out by the new administration.”

The bill would exempt any personal firearm, firearm accessory or ammunition that is manufactured commercially or privately in Minnesota and that remains within the boundaries of the state from federal law or regulation; including registration.

“The federal government shouldn’t be keeping track of citizens that are lawfully exercising their Second Amendment rights,” said Rep. Emmer. “Now, more than ever, citizens need be vigilant when it comes to protecting their individual liberties.”

I'm definitely supporting the conservative in the general election, but from the half dozen times I've seen them both speak I'm backing Emmer at state. Both have similar talking points on what we need to do to fix the budget, I think Emmer is better at connecting with the audience and has more of a fire of someone who sees something that has to be fixed. Seifert is starting to match the intensity, The other thing I don't like about Seifert is his surrogates attacks, he just needs to nut-up and attack directly or he looks like a wimp needing someone else to do his fighting for him. The delegate count is very close, in fact if you add up both camps numbers your well over 100%.

I don't know either of them personally but from what I've seen of them, Emmer seems more genuine, Seifert more polished as a politician. I prefer the real thing but polished and willing to work with the opposition generally wins more elections. Moderates tend to see someone like Seifert as someone they could vote for so he probably has a better chance in the general election. Unfortunately, that type of politician has a tendency to try to please both sides and then doesn't please either and ends up losing later (Norm Coleman). All that being said, I'm supporting Emmer in the primary. Does anyone know who, if any, among the DFL candidates is gun-friendly?

for what it's worth I wouldn't compare any (GOP or DFL) of the candidates to Coleman. While true they all will have to compromise and swallow hard on a few things, I don't think any of them have completely swapped political ideologies to get an office. Coleman has, and I would have been one of the Any one But Coleman republicans.

I'm working on getting on Tom's schedule. As I find out anything I'll pass it along.

I'm still working on it but i don't think I'll get on the schedule until after Tom gets the endorsement at the end of the month

Nice BTT.

If you're interested in helping out there's lots of parades coming up and Tom can always use more folks wearing hockey jerseys to show up and walk with them.
