Heads up from Tony Cornish - Update from Author of Castle

Postby cobb on Mon Mar 03, 2008 11:45 am

Here is a cut and paste of an e-mail I just received from Representative Tony Cornish.

Update from Author of Castle

Dear Friends,

Be ready for a last minute notice on a hearing. When it is called I would really appreciate not only e mails but also but people to show up at the hearing room with signs.

Good signs, that say something to the effect of "Empower People to Defend Themselves" or "Allow Law Abiding Citizens to Defend Themselves" or other good common sense signs.

When I send it out, please forward it to as many people as you can so that we have our supporters show up. Possibly you could start working on that now and also writing your letter and getting ready to hit the "send" button when I notify you.

I'll let you know as soon as I hear something.

How much in advance are we talking about here? I would go down there if I had at least a day or so notice. How long would it take? I don’t know about making a sign but I would go.

There is no mention of time. I assume if Tony knows a day or two in advance, he will tell all that he can. If he finds out the morning of that day, I guess that is all the time we have.

I often wonder about adding my cell phone to Tony's e-mail blast list, then I would find out when I am on the road and away from immediate e-mail.

Here's the update:
Tony Cornish wrote:For now, I have heard that Thursday the 13th, is going to be the mtg time for the "Castle Doctrine" hearing. This may change, so please be flexible.

12:30 pm for Room 10 of the State Office Building, the big brick building across from the State Capitol.

If the time or place change, I will notify you, but I would come early to get a seat. I have enclosed a document with all the Public Safety Policy Committee Members e mail addresses.

Please start your e mail with original messages and put either "Please Support Self Defense" or "Please Support Castle Doctrine" in subject titles.PUBLIC SAFETY AND CIVIL JUSTICE (POLICY COMMITTEE)

Please forward this e mail to as many people as you can, and remember, it is very important if you can possibly show up for the cmte hearing, and watch for e mails if date, time and place change quickly

I think Dick Unger said it well. Between this and the Registration bill, I'm probably going to be at the capitol a couple times this year.

Dick Unger (From TCC) wrote:It's really important to have a big turnout, I think, because the police, prosecutors, and Brady bunch will probably be out in force. It's important to impress the legislators that a lot of us are dead serious about the law changes.

Tony Cornish and others have worked hard, but because of the composition of the committee, it may be hard to get this bill to the floor where pro gun legislators can vote for it this session. Please come if you can.

I'm going to try to make it.

And a quicky question, are we allowed to carry within the capitol building? I notified the capitol Security last year that I would be carrying on grounds.

Buffalo - I am hoping to have a caravan - I am sending this out to everyone I know in an effort to get folks to show up. I might even come up with a sign or two:

"Criminals don't wait for police to arrive - 911 doesn't prevent crimes - allow me to defend my family!"

"Defenseless against his strength my 58 year old neighbor was choked to death by her 28 year old attacker: GIVE US BACK OUR RIGHTS TO DEFEND OURSELVES!"

"Tell me how bloody I must be before I have a justification for using deadly force? GREAT BODILY HARM IS NOT REASONABLE WHEN CONFRONTED BY A VIOLENT CRIMINAL."

"Why can criminals sue someone for defending themselves? Let's have the law on OUR SIDE - not on the criminals."

By the way, here is a link to the letter in case you want to carry on the capitol grounds. http://www.madfi.org/post/Capitol_Notification.pdf - had a heck of a time finding it!

I intend to be there also.
Is it too late to get on "the list" to carry when I'm there?

I suppose the Anti's will be watching to see if we carry so they have something to point at and grouse about with one another. I'm not going to carry, simply so nobody gets a story. Just look polite and friendly, don't show any attitude. It's Tony's wedding, so to speak, just be a guest.

Hi Dick,
I was'nt looking to make a statement or anything; but I guess given the situation, it would be hard not to look like you were if you were noticed.
Hope you make it there.
