GOCRA Releases Fall 2012 Candidate Ratings

Postby bstrawse on Mon Aug 13, 2012 9:13 am

http://www.gocra-mn.org/news/2012/08/go ... -tomorrow/

During election cycles, GOCRA questions Minnesota candidates to learn their positions on issues of importance to gun owners, and all defenders of liberty, throughout the state and the nation. We then grade each candidate, using these questionnaires, along with candidates’ public statements, past actions, and voting records. These grades are sent to our members and supporters, posted online, and made available to other state and national groups to aid in their ratings.

This year, GOCRA is releasing its grades for Minnesota state offices before the primary, to better aid Minnesota gun owners and others in choosing the best candidate.

When looking at these ratings, please remember that due to redistricting, your district and polling place may have changed since last election! To find your district and polling place, please visit the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office’s poll finder web site at http://pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us/

In districts with a contested primary election (tomorrow!), candidates opposing candidates are highlighted in blue (for DFL races ) or red (for Republican Party races). This primary election — and your primary vote — is very important! Please find your polling place and vote!

Remember: regardless of your party affiliation, you may vote in either party’s primary.

Candidate ratings can be accessed at: http://www.gocra-mn.org/news/2012-candi ... y-edition/

Wonderful. In my house race there's a (D) with an "F" and in my senate race there's an uncontested (D) with an "F". Great choices, lovely democracy. I'll be voting NOTA in those two, as in most of these "elections." Sigh.

There will probably be updates by the time the general election comes around - so perhaps these scores may change as more information is received...

Or perhaps not :/

Here's a email I wrote to Breanna Bly, the district 26A candidate:

Dear Mrs. Bly,

My name is “dismal”, and I am a voter in your district. While I am excited to see the possibility of Tine Liebling being voted out of office, I still have one concern about voting for you.

Recently, GOCRA (Gun Owner Civil Right Alliance) released their 2012 Candidates Grades. (http://www.gocra-mn.org/news/2012-candidate-grades/) I was disappointed to see that you received a F*, which is explained as meaning:

“May be hostile to Minnesota gun owners and sportsman: did not complete the GOCRA candidate questionnaire. Our experience is that candidates who do not return surveys may be hiding their positions, and often vote against gun owners.”

While I understand and accept that gun issues may not be a priority for you, I and many other voters will find it difficult to support someone unwilling to take a public position on the issues. Please complete and return the GOCRA questionnaire as soon as possible.

Thank you for your consideration.

“dismal”

P.S. You may notice that Carla Nelson, a District 26 Senate candidate has a “A” rating.

Actually I'm surprised by that grade considering how he aligns with RON RAND & the HOLY GOLD.

30A HOLLY NEUMAN DFL A-

Really? this nut bag wants to issue Drinking licenses. She would rather put the burden on the bars and the general public to prove that not only they are of age but that the state has given permission for the person to drink.
...Big Lake resident Holly Neuman suggested a couple of her own; A license/card for drinking should be issued.
As part of Neuman’s resolution, a license and a seperate drinking card would be issued by the State.
“It would preserve the ability of the DUI offender to still make a living so they could drive to work,” she said.
“I know its controversial, but this way, the offender would lose their right to buy or enter establishments with alcohol but still reserve their right to drive.”

and she got an A- Really???

Drinking licenses didn't factor into GOCRA's scoring methods - it was their previous voting record and answers to the questionnaire - which was around gun rights...

If you don't respond, you don't get graded. If you don't care enough to put your opinions on gun rights out there for the world to see, how "good" can you be on gun rights?
private or small grou permit classes available

Most of the non-responders will blow with the political wind...right?

Not necessarily. They get a metric crap ton of these surveys from an equally large number of special interest groups. Some have decided to decline all survey offers and focus on other means of reaching their proposed constituency.
