Because it would prove they were/are wrong... It would allow guns in schools. They don't get it, and won't let it happen. You saw 2 of these examples in this short 10 minute speech, people are completely oblivious to the obvious and will never, ever, understand the logic that there can be a good guy with a gun. The idea of a gun in a school makes them panic, stomach turned, heart racing and anxiety flowing.

I have never, until today, been as staunchly and PRO-NRA as I now am. They have proven themselves to be adaptable to the anti-gun lobby arguments, logical and socially concious, and willing to display intellect under duress. Mr LaPierre did a super job today of showing America that the NRA is NOT anti USA.

I just got a PM that my comment "about the NRA showing it was not anti-USA" was pretty stupid.

I was a kid when the HUGE NRA backlash in the early 70s when they came out in favor of not making armor piercing ammo illegal, and there was a HUGE drop in membership and there was a lot of calling the NRA ANTI-American over that topic.

That's where my statement stems from, having watched them weather that massive negative publicity mess, and to go from that image, to todays, where the NRA is clearly very much in favor of protecting Americans...not just ammo manufacturers.

Ha ha. Not sure what's wrong with you today but you have zero idea who I am or how I spend my time.

As I understood the issue, the whole topic of 'armor piecing', or 'cop killer' bullets had pretty much the same hysteria and technical accuracy as today's 'assault weapons' clamor. Among the munitions that would have been banned, would be just about every round- rifle, or shotgun slug- that would take down a deer. Thus the opposition.

ex ED: to the best of my memory, you are correct. It was a huge opening/weak spot for the anti group to attack and they did all they could to distort and abuse the issue.

I probably spent about 2,000 hours playing SOCOM II over the course of 3 years. Fun times - I love that game.

Looks like LaPierre is onto something,

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12 ... snhp&pos=1

"The National Rifle Association’s call to put armed guards in every public school in America has even further intensified the debate over how to protect the nation’s children in class, with some districts saying they’re preparing to take just that action and other educators cautioning that doing so sends the wrong message about education."

"If it requires to put armed individuals in our schools to protect our kids, then we need to do that," Scarnati told NBC station WJAC of Johnstown.

But that idea doesn't sit well with other educators, like Tony Scott, superintendent of schools in Bellaire, Ohio, where a local firearms association said it would provide free shooting training to teachers after the Connecticut shootings.

"I just don't believe our teachers signed up for this," Scott told NBC station WTOV of Steubenville, Ohio. "I know I didn't sign up for it."

...this is really what it all boils down to! ...few people abhor guns, like teachers... without giving it a seconds thought, they'd much rather attempt to use their own bodies as a very ****ty bullet deflector!

If not fer them, there'd be armed security in every school!... if not fer their unions, and their bloated staff, there'd be money to pay fer it too!

... simple bigotry, and irresponsible money handling!... almost as if they'd pulled the trigger themselves!
