Tax credit for gun surrender

Postby photogpat on Fri Jan 18, 2013 5:22 am

Wow, this is a new track.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/113/hr226/text

To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow a credit against tax for surrendering to authorities certain assault weapons.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

Wow, that's awesome! $2000 for any AR, no matter how beat up? Strip it of accessories, and turn that $500 POS into cold hard cash for a new one!

Although technically I don't think there is such a thing as a $500 AR-15 anymore..

Who's paying for that? You know they'll want to make up for it somehow.

I'm just thinking about SKS's...turn one of those in for a $2k tax credit yes sir!

I see this bill as doing something else though -- driving up prices of "assault" rifles even further...heck, if you can get a $2k tax credit for it!

You can only get 1 credit a year.

But yes, if this passes (and I really hope it does), my wife and I are each getting a new SKS! Brilliant!

Oh, don't worry, BHO will take it from those who "aren't paying their fair share" ;-)

How does this get rid of the evil guns owned by people who don't pay taxes?
I keep hearing that half of Americans don't pay income taxes.

Just one more reason to eliminate the current tax code and replace it with a national sales tax.

But the vast majority pay capitol gains and payroll taxes. Almost everyone can contribute to this, especially people who support gun control. They'll be subsidizing our profits!

This isn't time to waste energy on the tired, useless rhetoric about how half of America doesn't pay income taxes. This is the time to agree that this is a great plan and take advantage of the situation!

The scumbag criminals who are committing the crimes don't pay taxes anyways.
Donald Trump got more fat women moving in one day than Michelle Obama did in eight years.

Nope. Says so, plain and simple.

‘(1) WEAPON MUST BE LAWFULLY POSSESSED- No credit shall be allowed under subsection (a) with respect to any specified assault weapon not lawfully possessed by the taxpayer at the time the weapon is surrendered.

How do they know if it's lawfully owned?

If they gave 2K for anything it would also effectively raise the price of any used/new firearm on that list to 2K. Bye, bye $700 AR.
