Ok, I just got off the phone with a Lieutenant of the capitol police. He specifically stated That carry is only prohibited in Capitol buildings wihout prior notification. On Capitol grounds AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT ENTER THE BUILDINGS, it is perfectly acceptable. They are very aware of the events and do not wish any confrontations or issues either. He was very polite and to the point about it, answering all my questions. But he did state that if anyone was to enter the building carrying without notification, they would be arrested as per the law. That includes potty breaks. Name of officer withheld by me.
1911 Fan quote in memoirium about carrying:
The purpose of a firearm in a defensive situation is to make the other guy leak from holes he was not born with. Your job is to install those orifices for him.

There appears to be some confusion over there. I called them about a week ago or so, and the officer I spoke to didn't know and looked it up. She told me that their position is that you need to send notification for anywhere on the capital grounds. She could have been mistaken or misunderstood, but it demonstrates that not every capital LEO is going to understand the statute correctly. Also remember that parking ramps *are* technically considered buildings.

I'd hope they'd give a brief on what's up and make sure everyone's on the same page.

Last time I was at the capitol, I was in grade school... What's the parking situation in the area?

All the parking directly on the capital grounds is paid parking only. There's meters located at a few of the buildings such as transportation otherwise you'll have to park on the street or test your luck parking at Sears.

Lots with a red P have public metered parking. http://www.admin.state.mn.us/pmd/images ... arking.gif

Cedar and John Ireland have meters on the street.

John Ireland or Cedar would be close. Most likely have to feed two meters if you find an opening. Sears if you don't mind a ticket or possible tow. Marion is on the west end of Sears and is free on street parking if you can find it. The side streets west of Marion are also free but that side of town is a bit shady, take your stuff with you or lock it up good.

Thanks, I'll have to pass this along since I know absolutely nothing about the area. Hopefully someone on our bus does.

This was taken around 11:30am. I am having my buddy send me the pictures he took when it was at its peak. I think around 1000 people would be a safe estimate.
