On Capitol grounds AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT ENTER THE BUILDINGS, it is perfectly acceptable. They are very aware of the events and do not wish any confrontations or issues either. He was very polite and to the point about it, answering all my questions. But he did state that if anyone was to enter the building carrying without notification, they would be arrested as per the law. That includes potty breaks. Name of officer withheld by me.

There appears to be some confusion over there. I called them about a week ago or so, and the officer I spoke to didn't know and looked it up. She told me that their position is that you need to send notification for anywhere on the capital grounds. She could have been mistaken or misunderstood, but it demonstrates that not every capital LEO is going to understand the statute correctly. Also remember that parking ramps *are* technically considered buildings.

I'd hope they'd give a brief on what's up and make sure everyone's on the same page.
Last time I was at the capitol, I was in grade school... What's the parking situation in the area?

John Ireland or Cedar would be close. Most likely have to feed two meters if you find an opening. Sears if you don't mind a ticket or possible tow. Marion is on the west end of Sears and is free on street parking if you can find it. The side streets west of Marion are also free but that side of town is a bit shady, take your stuff with you or lock it up good.
