Keith Ellison Gun Violence Prevention Forum

Dear Friend,

Our nation has endured far too many shootings and mass killings in the past few years. Just last fall, we confronted our own tragedy in Minneapolis when the Accent Signage shooting claimed six lives.

Such tragedies cannot be ignored or accepted as the new norm. We need to act now to address gun violence.

Tomorrow, I will hold a forum on how we can prevent gun violence. The forum is free to the Minneapolis community. In addition to local leaders, I will be joined by Sami Rahamim, an anti-gun violence activist, whose father Reuven was the owner of Accent Signage and one of six victims in the shooting last fall.

Please share the image below if you think Congress should address gun violence.

Please be sure to ask Keith what his plans are to disarm Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood as well

I'll try to make it.

A little ironic Ellison, a Muslim, is holding a anti gun town hall in a Jewish community center. Pretty sure the most effective gun control measures ever enacted lead to countries being bowled over in WWII and the murder of millions of Jews.

Perfect, Red's Savoy Pizza is just across the street.

So...does anyone know about the school or daycare that's onsite?

I don't think children would be "present" from 5:30-7:30pm...but...

Does either of those preclude carrying? :?:

It doesn't matter if children are present at a day care or school. No carry, unless you get permission beforehand.

Yes westhope, I'm aware of the law -- but I'm uncertain as to the layout of the property -- therefore asking if anyone has been there before and can shed any light.

Or was this particular location chosen due to the fact that carry would be prohibited.

I assume it's also considered a "church" and thus may prohibit carry for that basis too, including (I think) in the parking lot.

This is reportedly the sign that they have posted now which is valid for a religious institution, and does include their parking facilities.

I'm guessing that this is no coincidence....

I really want to go - I did notice it says "free for the minneapolis community". Any chance they'll be checking ids at the door to make sure you're a resident (of mpls)?

I'm not an instructor but have been carrying since there were only 16000 permitholders (currently 114,747 )
but I thought the CORE of the 2005 Mn Court decision / revision of the law MCPPA 2003 VS 2005 was that:

***ONLY THE 2 PARTIES TO THE LAWSUIT had the parking lot exemption.

***All churches were relieved from ANY posting or could elect to post or not post in ANY language / typeface / visual format / placement of sign they chose {in that it was their first amendment right to inform / post in their chosen manner} (in person notification of course applies)

***And Parking Lot Carry / holstering / unholstering was permitted in any / all church except the two parties to the lawsuit. And they got their exemption from the LAWSUIT and not the 2005 revisions to the statute.

Instructors chime in please. I'm ready to be corrected on this, I'm just going from memory. Citations would be helpful. :)

Edited to add: Therefore the only purpose for a church to post was to be Unnecessarily Sanctimonious ;)
