People did get off the couch and vote. That's why he lost.

I was going to say.. with the turnout from the ammendments, noone can say it was lack of voter turnout, in MN at least.

As a general rule, the higher the turnout, the better for the democrats.

That is why you see the GOP pushing so many voter suppression schemes.

But seriously, everyone put on some nice clothes and head to the hearing.

I've updated the first page of this post with the schedule. Looks like they're taking "public testimony" in the evenings at 6pm.

I'll be there the morning of the 5th. Stay tuned for updates should they move the room...

Its becoming more and more important to have a strong presence at the hearings!!!

Now the President comes to town, making MN the first stop on his "Gun Control" tour.

Gun hearings planned @ Capitol Feb 5th-7th

Postby BigJnMn on Wed Jan 30, 2013 11:32 pm

Just sent every member on the committee an e-mail and I will be calling all of them starting tomorrow. I've also sent my own Reps. an e-mail separately and will be calling them tomorrow as well. I plan on attending the hearing on the 5th and then making another round of calls and e-mail after that week.

If you enjoy the fruits of the 2A but you're sitting around doing nothing but reading gun blogs and you're not writing and calling these people and your own Reps. you're a lost cause and you don't deserve the protection of the Constitution in my opinion. Every individual right acknowledged in the Constitution is important and needs to be viciously defended. Don't think others will do it for you and don't rely on the hope that politicians will do what they need to in order to keep their jobs. Politicians will do whatever is popular at that moment and logic plays no part. What you think is self preservation can be perceived very differently from a politicians point of view.

It's time to get very serious and make your opinion heard. Write and call at the minimum. Show up to one of the committee meetings if you can. Then keep calling and keep writing.

As long as they keep their hands off "Individual" killings, I guess I'm okay with that.

Seriously, I work nearby and may be able to make any of the days, but I have some questions. I've not been to a hearing before. How do we demonstrate support for our position by just showing up? Do folks bring signs? Carry openly (which I won't do)? I want to show up, but I also want to make sure that by doing so, I am indicating my support of the right issues.

When you contact them, you may want to bring up the fact that when New York passed their ban, that Governor Cuomo's approval dropped 15%, and his disapproval increased 15%. Most politicians would find themself out of office with that significant an opinion change. New York's ban can serve as a warning for the rest of the country.

If you come to the hearings - we'll have buttons for 2nd Amend supporters, just look for someone wearing one and have them point you at the guy with the bag of them. No signs are allowed inside the committee rooms.

The idea is to fill the seats with our folks so that our opponents can't drag every tour group in there and claim more supporters.

Kathy Lohmer is on that committee, here is the response i got from her.

Dear Kevin,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the upcoming votes in public safety regarding gun control.
I ran for this office to represent the people of my district with the principles of individual liberty and limited government. The second amendment to our US constitution assures our rights as private citizens to keep and bear arms for many reasons. I took an oath to uphold the constitution and I take this very seriously. I will never vote to limit the rights of citizens which are part of our constitution.
I would encourage you to come to any of our committee hearings and, if you would like, you will be given an opportunity to testify. It is your right to do so, and all the committee members need to hear from you. Sending an email is good, coming in person is much better.
Thank you again for writing.
Warm regards,
Kathy

I think me and the almost three year old will be there the 5th. We're easy to spot, she's that cute. I just have to decide if I'll put my "human right" pin on my lapel or her jacket...

I plan on attending one of the hearings next week but am unsure of the process. Would it be best to go the first day or last? Also, is public testimony to be heard during the entire hearing or only after 6:00pm?

What does our resident fashion expert/consultant consider to be proper attire?

Gun hearings planned @ Capitol Feb 5th-7th

I'm going to be wearing a suit with my miniature campaign medals from operations desert shield and desert storm on my lapel. I believe the symbolism is appropriate - I participated in liberating the people of Kuwait from oppression back then, and am taking a stand to liberate the people of Minnesota from the threat of oppression today.

I would encourage any other veterans to wear their decorations if they attend. They should know that those who have sacrificed for the cause of freedom oppose their criminal attempt to steal the rights of the people.
