This is a another battle in an ongoing war, but it has to be won and not just by gun owners. It is not isolated in it's scope. Everyone that believes strongly in our Constitution and way of life has a dog in this hunt.

If it's upsetting that I posted what amounts to a call to my former party, the Democrats, to repudiate these fringe characters, so be it. You should be less concerned about convincing the unconvinced and more concerned with getting gun owners off their butts. If however, you need to persuade those on the fence, take the other point I tried to make and use it. Show them with examples closer to their lives where their liberties are being eroded. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

May as well tell everyone to stop using the word "tactical" and hanging crap all over their ARs. Kind of puts the cross-hairs on us.

Well said. And good points.

I get so sick of always being on the defensive side of things while other groups want to take things away and control my choices. Don't snowmobile in Yellowstone. Don't drive that V8 vehicle. Stop eating that bad stuff (i.e. NY cola law). Don't put too many bullets in your gun. These people are too insecure in their own life and transfer that insecurity into passing laws that try to force others into their own image. F them. F them all. I have things I don't like too, but as long as they don't impact me I'm not crusading to take them away from people. I don't like smokers but as long as they don't make me sit through their smoke they can do whatever they want with it. How about these anti-everything crusaders get their noses out of other peoples' business for a change?

Is that a fact, doctor?

oldguy,

Thank you for your eloquent post on this issue. It is unfortunate that a few are using the thread as their own little sounding board to conduct their teenage girl like pissing match.

So enlighten me. What does the gay marriage issue have to do with gun control.

You're asking a guy who thinks drinking Colt 45s means he's drinking a "manly" beer. What kind of answer do you expect him to give?

Exactly, I realized this some time back, being older some of us have seen this as it has unfolded. I'm one who had a gun rack in the back window years ago.
as an example I'm going to tell a short story of my son, I don't tell of this much because it does bother me.

He is a psychology professor, when he was at university X he was asked by Purdue University to teach there, at this time he was talking at seminars and had been published in a number of medical journals, It required a four year agreement, OK,
A month before he was to start a one page letter arrived resending the offer stating BECAUSE;
Your father is a card holding member of the NRA and you yourself have a firearms endorsement on your drivers license.(DNR FAS)
They then contacted the University he was at and made it a hell hole, after moving to three different Universities the ghost of the dad has not come up.

It's not all about guns, It's about creating like minded people that in there opinion will be running the country and control everyone's destination.
That is why I try to recruit people into the firearms culture, It's my payback.

George is right on the money. I grew up and spent a great deal of my adult life in Northfield. A town dominated by two colleges. I've watched the evolution of the mindset of these folks. It started with good intentions. Accepting a diversity of views and with a general tolerance for individual differences. It devolved into something much different. There seems to be a need among these people to share their enlightenment with others whether or not they wish to be enlightened. Now that their attempts to convince us in a friendly way have failed, it's time to enact their template of how we should live our lives into law.

I think what we are fighting is a general misunderstanding of what a gun owner is. The anti's have drawn up an image of us and quietly disseminated it through film and tv shows and even sunday comics to the point that is "common knowledge" that this is what all gun owners are. Borderline alcoholic, drive a seal/owl/endangered animal of the month killing 4x4, always wears camo, hate gays, subjugate women, and looking to start the next armed revolution at the drop of a hat. Even a very basic understanding of semi auto vs full auto, most non gun owners I've met think they are the same thing. I politely try to educate as many I meet and even offer them to shoot, in the hopes that I can sway them into realizing that guns in the hands of the good guys are a good thing.

For example, only a couple coworkers of mine were gun owners a couple years ago, but as we talked more and more decided to get into guns to the point that most of my coworkers are now gun owners. Then one decided to put together a carry permit class. I asked my wife and she took the class too. Then she talked with her coworkers and got more and more of them into guns and carry permit classes. See how it can snowball in our favor?

A Warning To You All

Postby jshuberg on Sun Feb 03, 2013 10:25 am

It's a cultural war. They are not trying to ban firearms for the sake of safety and security, although thats the way they're selling it. They want to diminish, demoralize, and punish those with an opposing viewpoint. Period.

They are trying to minimize "collateral damage" by exempting certain "hunting guns", but make no mistake - they are not attacking our ownership of firearms, they are attacking us by way of our ownership of firearms. If the constitution gets in the way, so be it.

The fact that Obama, Feinstein and Ellison are all firearms owners, and have exempted the types if firearms that they own and use, but are attempting to ban the types of firearms they don't is evidence of this.

I'm curious as to why the liberals on this forum are so obsessed with the issue of gay marriage that they have to corrupt a good thread like this.

I guess you can not read then. The original post made statements of gay marriage. My question is what does that have to do with gun control?

And I am not a liberal. I just do not want anyone telling me how I need to live. Liberal or conservitive. Just get off my lawn.
