Sen. Ann Rest Response

Postby Gurillawrist on Wed Feb 06, 2013 2:57 pm

Dear Mr. Johnson,

Thanks for contacting me about the discussions going on now in Congress and the Minnesota Legislature about the appropriate government response to tragedies such as the one that occurred in Connecticut last December. We need well reasoned solutions from all involved--gun owners and non-gun owners alike. All grieve the loss of life. I will certainly support providing increased resources for law enforcement officials to carry out laws already on the books regarding guns. I hope we reach common sense results that protect the rights of all of us.

Sincerely,

Ann Rest

My response to her:
Hi Ann,
Thank you for responding. I find your response a little ambiguous. You mentioned that you will support increased resources for law enforcement to carry out laws on the books, but you made no mention to my specific concerns about magazine limits, and the ban of specific guns.

Can you please clarify your stance on these two specific points?

Best,
Mike

Her response back:
Dear Mr. Johnson,

I will really have to see the language of the bills. I will want to listen closely to whatever testimony is given. As you are well aware, this is a complicated set of issues. I am truly sorry if it sounds ambiguous, but I don't see any real bright lines in these issues.

I'm not. I think it is a clear cut no in terms of the 10 round magazine issue. Felony for having a standard capacity magazine? 10 years in prison? $50k fine?
