Are our numbers holding up? Did the DFL reps stay till the end of testimony today?

I like the idea of having the local police handle issuing carry permits, Saves a trip downtown.

Looks like tonight is going to be:
HF307 (Simonson) Permit to carry application required to be made to a chief of police of a municipality, and if no chief of police, to a county sheriff.

HF242 (Hausman) Large-capacity magazine crime established for the manufacture, transfer, or possession of ammunition feeding devices with the capacity to accept more than ten rounds or any conversion kit, part, or combination of parts; terms defined; and criminal penalties provided.

I think we need all the support we can get for HF242. I find it a bit odd that my bolt action .22 rifle with a 15 round mag is a threat to public safety....

A convenience for you could potentially be a big issue for others... I am very happy that my Chief has nothing to do or say about it currently. I would hate to think what might happen if he did.

Doesn't the bill merely change the 'who', not the 'how'? It would still be shall-issue. I'm not saying I'm for it or against it, since I haven't heard many pros & cons yet. But if the worry is about your local chief being able to arbitrarily deny you I think that worry is no more significant than it is today with the sheriff.

Agreed, one is elected the other is appointed. Guess who gets to pick the appointed ones?

High capacity magazines (more than 10 rds).

Maybe. But it may depend on the wording of other proposals if those were to pass together.

Still I much prefer my "carry is encouraged" Sheriff to my "only the police need guns" Chief.

Well since the Minneapolis Council member who came to testify for HF No. 285 and brought along a bus load of kids with him from a North Minneapolis school too. It would seem, as the language of the bill stands, both sides seem to agree it was good bill and little to complain about. Well there you go! We have a common goal of saving the children and punishing the ones that commit crimes. I am glad he came to testify on HF No. 285 and wish him well. Glad he did not feel so stongly about all the other gun bills coming before the legislature. (mostly sarcasm)

I want to know how an activist is able to introduce a Bill to a legislative committee and not an elected representative.

Is there a reason why PROPONENTS of these bills are given seemingly unlimited time, and OPPONENTS have a ~3 minute limit???
