A victory for gun owners but probably the easiest chunk of legislative idiocy to deflect for now (not to say it happened without considerable work and effort) - as stated by others, there are other lower-profile but equally nasty bills still in the works plus any procedural end-runs that get made outside of the normal legislative process. Getting the first touchdown does not guarantee you'll win the game, etc.. Thanks again to all the volunteer organizers and supporters who've gotten folks mobilized to effectively block the first round of nonsense.

There is no way to do that without documanting the seller, buy, and the guns, and having a public registry of of who owns the guns. The NICS is different, because all gun dealers are licensed. To do it a private way, they'd have to essentially license all gun owners.

What if the registration part of the bills was all they wanted for "stage 1" so by adding the bans the gun owners would be led to believe it's not as bad as they thought and get them to register.
After that's out of the way "stage 2" is less likely to have the "tragic boating accident" loophole.
Men may argue forever on what wins their wars, and welter in cons and pros, and seek for the answer at history's doors, but the man with the rifle knows.
