If gay marriage is recognized as constitutional, I would indeed have to recognize it -- as an employer, educator, health care provider, religious leader, etc. Probably even as a parent, if Canada is any guide.

Well, sure your business will have to follow the law. But personally, you can still choose to not say they are actually married.

You can choose to not believe in OSHA regulations too, but you have to follow them. Well, you don't *have* to, but you have to be willing to deal with the consequences.

That's true. It's also true that there is a segment of the population that gets just as riled up about gay rights as we do about gun rights. I'm not arguing the merits of their case, just saying that some hornet's nests don't need to be kicked.

People actually can refuse to recognize gay marriage, just as a whole bunch of people refuse to recognize civil rights or integration or freedom from religion.

They just sort of live in denial.

Things like this involve a societal progression toward civilization and freedom and liberty for all......thus it takes a long, long time.

It is encouraging that many young people are actually puzzled by the gay marriage issue and may even express surprise when they find out gays can't get married in a lot of states.

That's a good sign. Racial issues are really still going pretty slow and will probably lag behind the issues of sexuality.

Where does gay marriage exist that it needs to be recognized? In MN? I swore Obama told all of us that in his opinion marriage should be between one man and one woman.

And he changed his mind.

He changed his mind too. It's not 2008 anymore. We've all moved on.

Well.. not everyone. Dinosaurs take a while to die out.

And he changed his mind.

Did he still not have sexual relations with Miss Lewinski? Or did he change his mind on that one to? When did he change his mind on gay marriage? After Obama did, or as soon as the political winds shifted? These are serious questions. You must answer them immediately.

I wonder why the hell the government is involved in the marriage business anyway. The continued persecution of polygamists under the Obama administration is upsetting.

So much for a societal progression away from Anti-Catholicism. As for Ellison, how can you view his gun control position in isolation? The failed policies he espouses are the reason we are facing gun control. Almost every major metropolitan area controlled by these fools is falling of a cliff. Rampant crime, gun violence, drugs, etc. Let's just vote for more of the same.

I suppose the government needs to be involved in the "marriage business" because of all the legal implications. I personally believe the best solution is to have the state view these arrangements equally as civil unions, heterosexual or otherwise, and let religious organizations and private citizens make the determinations about what constitutes "marriage". And to be "fair" and "free" and consistent, that would also include civil unions of incestuous and polygamous relationships as well.

I think it was 2009 when Obama said that he believes marriage should be between one man and one woman.

The only shift is old bigots dying and young non-homophobes taking their place in our society.

Thus, comes change......even to Obama when he counts those votes.

He CAN learn, you know.
