Which is a part of the problem, but the millions of middle/upper-middle class folks who were not on "the list" who decided to McMansion their lives and borrow temporary/bubble equity to buy toys they could not afford that actually drove a problem into a crisis.

Ultimatley we still elected the folks who created the legislation in question - there was no significant outcry while everyone was surfing the national wave of artificial wealth which would have been the right time to raise an objection. We chose to stay out late and party, the national financial hangover is a predictable result just like it is when I try (and succeed!) in out-drinking a Canadian as a matter of national pride and wake up feeling like I'd been trampled by a herd of angry camels and infested with some form of brain eating insects.

Just because a right-wing website says a study is "respected" doesn't mean it's the truth.

Republicans have their studies and Democrats have their studies and they don't agree (imagine that).

You probably know slightly less than your 15-year-old cousin if that's the best you can do. He sounds like a bright boy and can probably find a lot of right-wing AND left-wing links.

I agree. These loans should never have been available to them though. When you have government insuring bad loans and encouraging risky lending, you have a perfect storm.

Well, we have quit electing presidents who give the rich huge tax breaks, so I'd say we're doing a helluva lot better.

Now it may take a few years to get the Tea Party out of Congress, but demographics tell us it will probably happen.

I see a better future coming to America......slowly.

Lol, nope. The NEBR is not right wing by any means. Lol!!! It's certainly not a "Republican Study" . It's a government agency. You're own government operating under a democratic administration is telling you the same thing I am, and you call me out as spreading lies? Man this just get's better. So what do you refute in this study?

Im guessing he will refute you by attacking your character, your faith, your political ideology, call you names while assuming an arrogant air of moral superiority. And add a lot of annoying emoticons.

Yes, we can only read studies performed by liberal secularist. Otherwise they are not legitimate.

Tell us how the NEBR is "right wing", and what about the study which concluded that the CRA is mostly responsible for the housing crash is incorrect? I would really like to know. If another government agency under the Obama admin. is lying to us with a bogus study I really want to know the details. Thanks in advance!

The prediction by NMRMN was correct. Your rebuttal included nothing more than attacking the source. This is great....but I expected some level of basic arguing with sources supporting your position.

Now, please continue to de-bunk this NEBR study. Pointing out one Republican on the board to dis-credit the entire government agency (along with a bunch of democrats on the board, BTW) doesn't tell us anything other than you can't put together an intelligent argument.

If you don't get it still. The NEBR is a government agency consisting of qualified folks from all sorts of back rounds (mostly democrats, BTW). Are you telling us that it is a skewed and fraudulent report they released?

Did you miss this?

Here it is again.

"Dr. Poterba served as a member of the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform....."

According to your own link, this dolt ADVISED Bush on taxation......

So the president of the organization was a Bush advisor and you think their study could be unbiased?

Need any land in Florida? A bridge in Brooklyn, perhaps?

What does this have to do with the content of the report? You're still attacking the source. You have anything??? If I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying that since Pres. Bush tapped James Poterba (economic Professor at MIT) for advice (as have other Presidents) the entire study is skewed? Poterba isn't even a Republican for crying out loud?

Is this really your rebuttal to the study?
