Does the bill have to be heard by a committee before the house could vote on it?

Can Paymar prevent it from being heard in the Public Safety committee?

The Speaker of the House is in favor of it.
I think he could be pretty persuasive.

DANG RIGHT!!!!

It's about time we made crime illegal!

If you can tell men not to rape, and that works, why cant we tell criminals not to commit crimes.

And just so you don't misunderstand me, I think that this proposal is only common sense, which I suppose makes it hard to get passed.

It's not the LAWS you necessarily have to worry about, it's how the laws are regulated.

Which is what makes it so brilliant.

And why the antis will oppose it, tooth and nail.

That's because the anti's bill(s) are a means to an end that they've been trying to reach for a very long time. They may as well pass a bill that says criminals have to hold their breath while committing a crime. It's not like they're going to obey it anyway, and it'll be just as effective as anything else the anti-gunners try to pass to stop crime. As we all know, criminals don't obey laws, and in fact, some of them write them :)-

+1 to everything people said after the OP.

LET THE
HORNSWAGGELING
BEGIN

As in Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire.

I saw the YouTube Vid and it was BRILLIANT.

The woman Rep Hilstrom is a democrat! Shocked! I'm Shocked! She didn't have a Dead Baby in her arms and she could speak English and mentioned 'The Second Amendment' What is the world coming to?

THIS is the spark of resistance that everyone has been looking for....All parties are articulate and principled...it really is funny how the questions from the media are so hysterical....they must have required an Emergency Kool-Aid injection right after the news conference.

HERE'S THE BAD NEWS...HERE'S WHERE WE GET SCREWED: Paymar says there will be no hearing on this bill and there are only 15 days left to have one......what has to happen to shame that greaseball into holding a hearing? I didn't watch the final legal maneuvering around the MCPPA 2003 but I'll bet there was a lot of last minute arm twisting.....

What do we need to do....deliver Wheelbarrows of Petitions to the Capitol Steps? Stage Die Ins?
What's the plan to COERCE these clowns into having hearings?

YO PAYMAR:

NO MAS PANTALONES !

As soon as we find out the bill's name and number, etc, it's time to call and email non-stop.

Message from Tony Cornish, let's light up the phone lines (see post below this one to for another Action Item):

"Can my friends do me a favor? Please call your local Chief of Police and ask to leave a message with his/her personal assistant or his/her answering machine? Please leave a message that asks why he/she was not there today in support of my bill? The Sheriffs were there, but a news media person asked why the Chiefs weren't there, as there is nothing objectionable to law enf. It only helps them go after the bad guys. Please Re Post and Thanks Very Much. The Conf went very well. The bill will get a number today and I will post it later. Mankato Chief of Police is one of the supporters, however."

went to http://www.gocra.org and found this:

Gun rights protected, criminals prosecuted

An alternative to a gun control bill

Today, DFL Representative Debra Hilstrom and a bipartisan coalition of legislators and sheriffs introduced a new bill which will address the very real issue of keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the dangerously mentally ill, without infringing on the rights of law abiding Minnesota gun owners. Republican Rep. Tony Cornish, the House’s leader on gun rights, joined Hilstrom at the press conference to speak in favor of the bill. Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek, Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson,

The bill’s co-authors comprise more than half of the representatives, both Democrats and Republicans, in the Minnesota House. There were so many authors that Rep. Hilstrom had to introduce three identical bills to fit the names of all the co-authors!

HF1323 focuses on forcing government departments to quickly and accurately report criminal convictions and mental health and chemical abuse commitment data to the state and federal background check systems.

The bill also add a lifetime prohibition on firearm ownership for perpetrators of certain violent domestic felonies, and makes it easier for counties to prosecute the straw purchasers that the federal government won’t.

GOCRA is proud to have worked with Rep. Hilstrom, Rep. Cornish and the NRA to craft real solutions to real problems.

The bill has been referred to Rep. Michael Paymar’s Public Safety committee. Unfortunately, Rep. Paymar has suggested that he won’t give the bill a hearing, preferring instead his own bill, HF237, which includes many infringements of your rights, including universal registration disguised as background checks.

This line here is just smacking me in the face:

The bill’s co-authors comprise more than half of the representatives, both Democrats and Republicans, in the Minnesota House.

So.....If OVER HALF of the members of the House are supporting this GOCRA ALTERNATIVE GUN BILL....what is that saying about how Paymar is running his comittee?

Legally it may mean nothing but morally, ethically, and with regard to whatever oath he has taken to hold office, What does it tell us if he refuses to give this bill AT LEAST A HEARING.

I'm feeling like the 3rd and 4th quarters are yet to be played and we have only 15 days.....

I also think whatever 'Election Bounce' that Obama and the Left have will be over in Early Jan of 2014 as politicians sober up after Christmas and realize that their asses are once again on the frying pan.

The Left has the Momentum currently and something like Cornish's bill can throw some cold water on that.

Yawn...

Making crime more illegal, and we're supposed to feel safer?

How about repealing tax laws that blatantly circumvent the constitution? That's a gun bill I want to see. This one is a bunch of crap.
