Please don't take me wrong on this, but if I were an anti gun person, I would go to as many firearms sites as I could and start posts bashing the NRA, watch all hell break out amongst the gun folks, then laugh my butt off.

The direction this thread took does make one wonder. The original complaint was shown to be based on a fabrication from the opposition.

Technically speaking, the NRA is doing exactly what they should be doing. So many people assume the NRA is a conservative organization, it's not. People get upset when they support people like Reid but one of the biggest strengths of the NRA is that they don't take a stance on wedge issues. Make no mistake here, the NRA is a single issue organization with a narrow focus and they generally don't/shouldn't take positions outside of the core issues the organization represents. I don't like Dirty Harry any more than you do, but I guarantee you that if the NRA starts playing party politics, you'll see membership decline.

Gun rights are, and should always be, a non-partisain issue.

+1

And, that's the only way they can succeed at anything. When I arrive at the scene of a fire or MVA, I focus on what's important and discard everything else. It's not difficult to identify what's important. What's difficult is to stay focused on it. I think that's why there may be some misconception about the NRA-ILA's mission.

I don't always agree with what the people at the NRA (or NRA-ILA) say, but I never doubt why they're saying it.

I couldn't agree more.

Did the NRA Make a Backdoor Deal to Not Oppose Universal Background Checks?
Perhaps. But, I believe the question isn’t whether the NRA would fight a UBC bill, because let’s face it, they’re the NRA, they’re going to publicly oppose anything that even vaguely resembles a gun control bill, so the question is whether they would really care if it passed.

So much for their help...

E-mail from NRA
An article appearing Tuesday, March 12th is falsely reporting that NRA will not oppose legislation being negotiated in the U.S. Senate that would mandate background checks for all gun purchasers.

The story posted on NBCNews.com alleges that NRA will not oppose expanding the background check system to include all private firearms sales, "provided the legislation does not require private gun sellers to maintain records of the checks". This statement is completely untrue. The NRA opposes criminalizing private firearms transfers between law-abiding individuals, and therefore opposes an expansion of the background check system.

Read the full statement here.

Interesting conversation I had today....

I went to the gun show at the state fairgrounds and one person at the NRA booth asked if I was a member, and I replied that yes, I am. They asked if I needed to renew, and in fact, no, because I just did. I asked him if he lived in MN and he replied that he did. Then I asked if he had a membership for GOCRA, who coincidentally has a booth right across from the NRA's booth at this same gun show, and he replied that he did not have a GOCRA membership. I then asked him if he has a PTC, and he replied that he did... to which I replied, "Well, you can thank GOCRA for that. they are like the NRA except for MN. I'm a member of the NRA because they do things at the federal level, and while the NRA does work at the local level, they don't do it like GOCRA does. It was GOCRA, not the NRA, that got MN the MPPA. GOCRA is the reason you have a PTC in MN. You guys need to support each other and work with each other because you're on the same side. Why not become a GOCRA member today?"

After that, I left, but hopefully he took my advice.

I know there's people on here who hate the NRA, and quite frankly, I don't want to hear it. I don't like everything about them either, especially the fact that they are so die-hard Republican to the point hat if Satan was a Republican and Jesus a Democrat, they'd back Satan because he was a Republican....anyway, but if you can name a national organization that does more for 2A rights, let me know about it and I'll join it.

http://votingamerican.wordpress.com/201 ... un-rights/

QUOTE:
According to that amendment, the government cannot collect “any information relating to the lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition.” This means that the government CANNOT mandate firearm registration. No registration, no confiscation. Poor ol’ Joe Biden, he spent the last couple of weeks focusing on making a law requiring registration. Good thing is though, the amendment also states that not
even an executive order can override the amendment

CNN is now referring to it as “a gift to the nation’s powerful gun lobby.”And according to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), that’s exactly right. He says he personally added the provision in order to keep the NRA from getting involved in the legislative fight over Obamacare, which was so ubiquitous in 2010.

(You can find this information in Section 2716 of the Obamacare Law)

It looks like Harry Reid actually helped out firearm owners without even realizing it. Thanks Harry!!
