New Gun Range Opportunity in Osseo

Postby bjohnson on Mon Jun 17, 2013 12:01 pm

[quote]Help get a new gun range built in the Twin Cities!

If you live in the Twin Cities, you know how busy the small number of indoor ranges get, and how long you have to wait for a lane on a winter Saturday.

(And if you're in Greater Minnesota, lend the city folks a hand anyway!)

A local, familiy-owned business is working to build a new gun store and range in Osseo (map), a suburb (near Maple Grove and Brooklyn Park) the northwest metro. Chris and Jeanine Willliamson have been FFLs for years, and are looking to expand their family business to meet this need.

Of course, some people will oppose anything to do with firearms.

We need to show the Osseo City Council that there is strong local support for this business, at that it will attract people and dollars into the Osseo community.

What you can do:

Go to Osseo tonight:

Please attend the Conditional Use Permit meeting TONIGHT in Osseo:

If possible, arrive by 6 p.m., but get there whenever you can. Please be neatly dressed and polite! This isn't a protest, but a show of calm support! We recommend AGAINST open carry for this event.

Monday, June 17
June 17, 2013, 7 p.m.

Osseo City Hall (map)
415 Central Ave
Osseo, MN 55369

Call and email the City Council:

Please be very polite and friendly, and tell them IN YOUR OWN WORDS that you support a new gun store and range, and that you would visit Osseo and spend money there, both at the range and at local businesses such as gas stations and restaurants.

Please do go and advocate for the new business. Or send e-mails. I did since I cannot attend tonight.

It is baffling to hear the thoughts and position of those opposed to things like this. The Osseo superintendent was particularly bewildering:

Osseo Superintendent Kate Maguire said the school’s concern is over the increased number of guns in the area, and who may be carrying those guns. She worries it could be a distraction for students and teachers.

“My preference would be that it would be located along another road some place,” she said. “In maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, the presence of weapons always makes that job more complex and difficult.”

Worried about "who may be carrying those guns"? I don't even get that. So people who go to a gun range for sport or practice are some evil, dangerous element of society?? Really? As established by what? I'd be more worried about the little gang-banger douches that are in your BP high school, Ms. Maguire. "Presence of weapons always makes that job more complex"?? Are you sure? Have you talked to your local police department? Not sure that work environment has a challenge with weapons. How about at any local gun range? Do the workers there have problems?

In another article someone said basically "what if there is more crime or violence around this place?". Well, if that worries you then do a little fact checking to alleviate your worries. Look at all other similar facilities in neighboring cities. Is there higher crime or violence near InRange in Monticello? Around Bill's in Circle Pines? Hudson? Near any local sportsmans' club? No? The why the F are you worried about it??

We cannot let stupidity and ignorance control the world. Please, if you are halfway rational and feel that a new business like this will enhance the community then help encourage this to get approved.

I agree. No smart criminal (an oxymoron, I know) would try anything near a gun range. That is almost a guarantee that there are law abiding citizens whom are carrying and licensed to do so swarming around the area. Could boost the economy of Osseo as well... What if guys want to grab a bit to eat after shooting? Fill up their cars with gas on their way out. No matter how its spun, I can't see this being a bad thing.

Being parked in a police station parking lot doesn't stop criminals, why would a gun range? :D

I saw a story on the news about this and the superintendent was complaining about how it'd bring guns into their community by the hundreds or thousands; and I thought to myself, how is that many legal guns a problem? How many are there that AREN'T legal and that you DON'T know about?

Likewise she was complaining about how the gun range would be so close to the school, it'd be a problem. Funny thing.... I feel the same way about churches and religion. Those things are far more dangerous than any gun is, was, or ever could be, but they build churches next to all sorts of places without concern, now how fair is that? Sometimes the church and school are mixed and then things really get interesting...... far more insidious and dangerous than a gun or gun range is, in my opinion.

Yea, her argument for the range being dangerous because of its proximity to a school is pretty poor. In Lino Lakes there is a prison across the street from not one, but two schools. A middle school and a elementary school.

If you look on the map it's just a little further down Broadway from Bill's in Robinsdale.
