Great job. Our emails and the push back worked. But, as always, they must be continuously watched. :busy:

I would be really surprised if it was over already.

Probably on cable access tv

I literally laughed out loud.

Anyway- victories like this are important deterrents for other like minded, leftist tyrants. I’m pleased the email and phone call “outreach”, along with those that attended in person, impacted the proceedings.

Which means there's a good chance that they'll try to back-door some anti-gun zoning regulations at the next planning commission meeting, where people don't pay as close attention.

City councils are usually pretty receptive to input from constituents. And it sounds like this was mainly a pet desire of just one member. I'd be very surprised to see anything "back-doored" because of this. Because nothing a city does can be hidden from the light without major legal implications later if found out. Everything is done with public notices, public meetings, public minutes, etc. Municipal governments march to a tight drummer. They can try things but they can't hide things and they can't avoid the rules/laws that bound them.

Thanks to the Caucus for being on top of this and rallying their good members to action. It was done very professionally. i.e. Instead of "The sky is falling... quick write crazy letters to people and be outraged." it was "Here is what is happening. This may impact you. If it does here is how to contact folks and what to do. Tell them how it actually impacts you." That is how valid and credible activism takes place!

Not to mention that I have never seen a planning commission that can enact changes to city ordinances. Typically they serve as an advisory body to the city council and make recommendations for the city council to act on. As such, as mentioned above, there will be public notice of the change and it typically has to go through the council twice to become law.

Changing a zoning classification isn't a change in law.

Still, as H&H notes, the Planning Commission can't change anything. They just review stuff, recommend a path, and the council acts on it. I've been on both for a significant metro suburb. And still everything done in or by the PC is public info and documented. Zoning changes aren't "done" in the PC.

Changing what is allowed in a particular zoning classification is changing a city ordinance. A city ordinance is a LAW enacted by a municipality.

Entirely possible. So we watch... and wait.

Changing what zoning classification applies to a particular property is not.

Correct, however please define what you are saying? You stated that in the planning commission a back door method might be used. Once again, a planning commission typically does not have the authority to change the zoning of a particular parcel, just provide the city council with that recommendation. Also, you seem to be implying that they would use this to force a business out of business. So using your scenario they would have to what, change a commercial zone to residential or industrial or ag? I guess I just do not understand what your concern is.

I watched the council meeting this morning and was disappointed that the open mic portion is not recorded or televised. I want to applaud Brad Aho for being spot on. As for the rest of the council I'm not surprised in their responses after all they are politicians. I am mostly disappointed in the Mayor. On one hand she said she had to listen to her constituants, but she never said how many messages were pro and how many were con! Do we really have a problem in EP, or are we creating a problem (I already know the answer to that).

Edina used to be solidly pro-gun.
It isn't, anymore.
Eden Prairie may be next.

Lot's of limousine liberals out there. Their first house was South Minneapolis when they were JR. Asst. blah blah, now 2 promotions/pay raises and kids in the school system later, they are fleeing to the suburbs but taking their politics with them. Is there such thing as Liberal oriented gentrification............?
