House Republicans pick Tom Emmer as third speaker nominee
Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), the House majority whip, was elected as the GOP speaker nominee Tuesday on a fifth ballot in an internal race that drew nine Republican candidates. However, he does not yet have enough support to be elected on the House floor because of Republican holdouts. To prevail, Emmer would need a majority of the full chamber. Former president Donald Trump took direct aim at Emmer as he was trying to convert holdouts. In a social media post, Trump called Emmer a RINO — Republican in name only — and “totally out-of-touch with Republican Voters.”

Emmer is about as good as they can do from my perspective. He voted to certify the election and for the funding continuation bill recently. They don’t have a lot of responsible adults to choose from.

I doubt he will be able to get past the MAGAs though. Too bad.

Emmer drops his pursuit of speaker’s gavel
Republicans nominated the five-term congressman from Minnesota’s Sixth District early on Tuesday, but Emmer wasn’t able to garner all of the votes he needed from GOP holdouts.

Rep. Mike Johnson Elected 56th Speaker of the House
At last, Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives successfully elected the 56th Speaker of the House on Wednesday afternoon following multiple rounds of unsuccessful ballots and withdrawn nominations, selecting Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana to lead the lower chamber.

If Schiff for brains doesn't like Johnson he is most likely a good guy.

From Twitter:

@RepAdamSchiff
You might be Googling who Mike Johnson is this morning.

Let me make it simple:

Johnson is a hard-right, pro-Trump, leading election denier in the House.

Sadly, this is what passes for Speaker material in the Republican conference.

At least he only needs to worry about the job for a year. If he’s lucky.

New Speaker Mike Johnson's First Good Idea: A Debt Commission
A debt commission won't solve any of the federal government's fiscal problems, but it's the first step towards taking them seriously.
