How about this one...

46. The U.S. government declares a ban on the possession, sale, transportation, and transfer of all non-approved firearms. A 30-day amnesty period is established for these firearms to be turned over to the local authorities. At the end of this period, a number of irregular citizen groups and defiant individuals refuse to turn over their firearms to authority. Consider the following statement: [SD D A SA NO]

"I would fire upon U.S. citizens who refuse or resist confiscation of firearms banned by the United States government."
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

The Truth:
The survey does exist and was passed out to a few hundred Marines in 29 Palms, California, in 1995, but not by the Pentagon. According to an article in NEW AMERICAN magazine in October of 1995 by John F. McManus, the survey was part of an academic project on the part of a Navy Lieutenant Commander Ernest Guy Cunningham who was earning his Masters Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. The survey alarmed some of the Marines and copies soon started being circulated among gun rights supporters. Lt. Cmdr. Cunningham told McManus that he was a member of the National Rifle Association himself and didn't agree with the tone of the questions. He said the survey was intended to confirm and then pass on to higher authorities his fears about "the lack of knowledge among the soldiers about the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and their heritage as Americans."

This "survey" is Interesting given my recent post regarding the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878... Although it seems ridiculous to create a survey with such an obvious undertone, I do see the point Cunningham was trying to make regarding the "lack of knowledge among the soldiers" and I will go so far to say the lack of knowledge of the civilian folks (especially politicians) as well in regards to American history, the U.S. Constitution, and the laws that govern our nation. It is the responsibilty of all Americans to know and UNDERSTAND their rights, as well as the laws they are bound by...ignorance has rarely been a viable excuse to break the law or violate the rights of others.....

:flag:

P.S. NOTE the year of the survey was 1995.....perhaps Cunningham was a little ahead of his time given current events

....in fact, this survey and/or derivative stories have been posted a couple of time on this site.....
that was part of why I did not and do not take it seriously........

Aw, come on. Don't let that stop you. Hasn't stopped anyone else. :P
our quarrel is not about the value of freedom per se, but stems from our opinion of our fellow men … a man’s admiration of absolute government is proportionate to the contempt he feels for those around him --Alexis de Tocqueville--
