"The administration is reworking the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). One of the many things regulated by ITAR are “technical data” tied to “defense articles.” This includes, but is not limited to, “detailed design, development, production or manufacturing information” about ammunition and firearms."

In updating regulations governing international arms sales, State is demanding that anyone who puts technical details about arms and ammo on the web first get the OK from the federal government — or face a fine of up to $1 million and 20 years in jail.
According to the NRA, that would include blogs and web forums discussing technical details of common guns and ammunition, the type of info gun owners and ammo reloaders trade all the time.
"Gunsmiths, manufacturers, reloaders, and do-it-yourselfers could all find themselves muzzled under the rule and unable to distribute or obtain the information they rely on to conduct these activities," said the NRA in a blog posting.

Is ITAR the "gun treaty" that generated so much controversy? I was concerned that some broadly worded innocuous-sounding provision of the treaty could be interpreted to allow unforeseen domestic gun regulations; this sure sounds like it.

Apathy is a fast track to loss of freedoms, I'd rather have the NRA bird dogging any potential infringement on our rights than not.
Without the legitimate gun rights groups we'd probably only be allowed to carry a six shooter with one bullet in our shirt pocket!
A seemingly harmless toe in the door can turn into a home invasion, best not to let the door open. - I know strange analogy.

It's acceptable, to the progressives, to bypass the 1st amendment, in order to attack anything they don't approve of.
