CNN Reports Republican Gov. in VA

Postby shadeslanding on Tue Nov 03, 2009 9:01 pm

CNN and Fox News are reporting that Republican Bob McDonnell will win the Governors seat in VA.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/11/03/democrats-republicans-prepare-possible-legal-battle-new-jersey-race/

Other news sources are reporting that Republican Chris Christie is currently leading Incumbent Jon Corzine, a Democrat 49% to 45%. So maybe there is hope for the Republic yet!

Oh and in the 23rd in NY, Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman is leading his Democrat opponent Bill Owens after the Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava dropped out due to a lack of support and funds. Scozzafava is left of left and after dropping out, she endorsed the Democrat Bill Owens.

This should rock Washington. Hopefully the leads that Christie and Hoffman have established will grow wider as the night goes on.

It's time fellow conservatives to take back the Republican party! See you at the caucuses in 2010 where we all can become a "Freedom Czar"!

Also appears that GOP took all 3 statewide offices up for election in Virginia. Governor, Lt. Governor, and AG.

AP is now reporting:

Republican Christie captures NJ governor's seat
By ANGELA DELLI SANTI, Associated Press Writer Angela Delli Santi, Associated Press Writer – 2 mins ago

TRENTON, N.J. – Chris Christie, an aggressive former prosecutor who racked up a perfect conviction rate in public corruption cases and became the darling of New Jersey's Republican Party establishment, has unseated the deep-pocketed but unpopular Gov. Jon Corzine.

Christie, 47, on Tuesday became the first member of his party in a dozen years to win a statewide contest in heavily Democratic New Jersey. President Barack Obama invested heavily in the race, campaigning with Corzine five times on three separate visits.

With 75 percent of precincts reporting, Christie had 50 percent of the vote compared to 44 percent for Corzine. Independent candidate Chris Daggett, who at one point had been feared as a potential spoiler, had about 5 percent.........................the rest of the story http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_nj_governor.

Of course it might all mean less than you might think:

NRCC Talking Points: "The 2001 off-year elections have no bearing on next year's mid-term elections. These races revolved around local issues and local candidates. There were no discernable national trends." [Hotline, 11/7/01]

RNC Communications Director Trent Duffy: "It's laughable to suggest that this has any national implications." [Chicago Tribune, 11/7/01]

"'Given how sour the economy is and given how sour some of the leading economic indicators have gone, and how sour many Americans feel about their own personal well-being and the depletion of their personal portfolios, they haven't shot the messenger yet,' said Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway. 'I think it speaks to the president's strengths that his approval ratings are still up there.'" [Gannett, 8/31/01]

CNN's Cynthia Crowley said, "I think what you're going to see tomorrow is what you might expect, which is, Democrats -- who have some good wins here, let's not take it away from them -- in New Jersey and Virginia are going to say, hey, look, this is prelude to next year. But I can tell you, on both sides of the aisle, they're saying anybody that tries to predict what this means for next year is nuts." [CNN NewsNight, 11/6/01]

WHat is CRITICAL to remember, is that the RNC showed hardly ANY support for these candidates.

When the emails and the calls come from the RNC remind them that CONSERVATIVE candidates who just happened to be republicans won, NOT the RNC candidates.

Quite possibly. But there's little doubt about the NJ and VA governors' races always going against the President's party. For VA, the pattern has held for 32 years, NJ, 24.

The good news for conservative Repubs vs. RINOs is quite tempered by the news from NY-23, though. There, the local GOP machine picked a true RINO as the candidate, but the conservatives bolted, and swung behind a 3rd party candidate. Naturally, the Dems kicked butt. This would not be news, but this, after all, is a district the GOP has held since before the Spanish-American War.

Sometimes in politics, you have to decide to compromise on principle, or you will lose power, and then all the principles in the world won't make a lick of difference. This truism applies here, and in spades.
