As I see Dayton's chances for re-election......he has more to lose by signing than vetoing.

And he had a very close call getting elected with a recount.

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, who faces re-election next year, has said he won't sign any gun law package unless it's supported by the state's rural lawmakers.

Dayton also said that he was the worst senator ever from Minnesota shortly after his term expired.

That's the one thing that I agree 100% with him on.

Some sort of gun control bill will get sent to Dayton......question is, how bad will it be?

My take on it is that, in the unlikely event that a bad bill is passed and sent to him, he'll veto it and that veto would make the worst senator into the best governor that MN has ever had.

Here's what he knows (just like Obama knew it). He can go ahead and alienate the gun haters among his supporters because they're going to be FORCED to vote for him anyway. They'll have no choice.

But, he also knows that he could GAIN votes from moderates who own guns and don't want to be hassled with new gun laws......and he has the perfect explanation for veto in that provisions of a bad bill could be unconstitutional.

Of course, a revised and improved bill could be passed and sent back to him.

It's an interesting and uncomfortable situation.

I sure hope it turns out ok.

Outside of the tax proposals and the stadium bill I don't think the Gov. likes to plant his feet in the ground on anything controversial which is why he has already stated that his vote is dependant on input from the 'rural' legislators. I'm at least hopeful because that's better than saying he'll go with whatever some hand-selected committee of law enforcement people tells him to do.

I agree. He blew it on that one.

Having said that though, I preach to my students to NEVER stand their ground unless they have to. ALWAYS avoid or escape before defending if possible. Ask George Zimmerman how things are working out for him and if he'd be better if he had dis-engaged.

It would be nice to have the option though. One less thing to prove in a deadly force/self defense trial.

Yep, best way to win in a gunfight is not to put yourself into a position where a gunfight is going to happen.

Zimmerman may have had no choice at the end if he was attacked as he claims, but the fact of the matter is that he needlessly injected himself into the situation after his initial contact with 911.

We teach the same thing in martial arts. Listen to that little voice that says watch that guy or group of people.
Even without a gun . You can find yourself in serious legal trouble if you accidentally kills someone or maim them.

He may not have been very smart in following Martin, but it was not illegal. I would be surprised if his actions weren't exonerated in the end. Still, look at what a poor decision has cost him.
