Tony Cornish says no chance of bans passing this year..

Postby farmer44mag on Tue Feb 19, 2013 1:26 pm

Tony Cornish just posted on his facebook page that "the ban bills are pretty much dead, there aren't the votes to pass them, and the senate judiciary chairman has dropped the bills from consideration". Lets hope they get killed off on his house committee as well.

He does have the edge of being in the committee if I recall, which means he'd be the first to know how it'll do.

Hopefully we can keep it dead and gone.

We need to keep showing up - Senate hearings this week, for example. There are numerous restrictions and other issues on the committee's agenda.

Our opposition is even phone banking tomorrow night for 3 hours to get folks to show up at the committee meetings - because we out numbered them about 800-15 last time around.

Do not let up on the pressure

Yes- he said everyone should still come to the rest of the hearings- there are plenty of "bad" bills that still have a shot at passing.

The purpose of these bills wasn't to get new laws passed. The bills served and continue to serve the purpose of getting the "gun nuts" (their words, not mine) all worked up and out in force. I'm very far left (think Bernie Sanders kind of lefty) and most of the people I associate with are also fairly liberal. While I happen to enjoy firearms, I can't think of any of my liberal friends that care one way or the other about gun laws. Why do you think the anti-side can't get people to show up, because it's just not that big of an issue to us lefties. I'm sure the left will do what they can to keep the gun talk going in hopes that the pro-gun crowd will keep working to get single issue pro-gun candidates on the ballot next time around. If they do, the dems will cruise to victory again. (Kind of like what happened with the gay marriage thing last time around.)

I'd like to hear an assessment of how badly the 'Omnibus' procedure can hurt RKBA.

Wouldn't this be how 2 or 3 'reasonable' measures could be bundled with a turd like abolishing 'State Pre-emption' (meaning you'd have to apply to your police chief instead of the Sheriff for your permit)

Paymar was pumping the idea of "Omnibus" you know that weasel has some kind of sucker-punch up his sleeve.

Yet- still they pass them and infringe upon our rights- every chance they get.

From his Facebook page:
"Basically, there is no way now, I believe, that a gun or mag ban will pass in Minnesota. Hopefully, the price of ARs will come down and the availability go up. More important, however, is the saving of our Constiutional (sic) Rights in this endeavor. The next thing to worry about is all the other bills, to include the Universal Background Check. It's still alive!!! It comes up this Thurs at noon in the Senate. Pleaese (sic) re post and tell everyone to come. Tony C"

Assault rifle and magazine bans may be off the table but Universal Background Check is still a possibility.

What new MN state or national gun legislation has been signed into law? (Or even made it close?)

Well they did pass a pro gun bill through the house last year, only to be vetoed by Dayton.

I do wonder though, why I need a permit (and pay for it) to exercise a right.

Its not Minnesota, but you have New York and Colorado to look at for examples. They are Americans like us and if it can happen there, you can bet it can happen here.

A 7 round mag law was just passed in NY last month- that is what these bills are modeled after. They are also passing mag bans in Colorado.

You know why the governor was able to veto this with no political consequences? Because most Minnesotan's don't really care about gun laws one way or the other. While that was helpful in proving my point, it didn't really answer the question.

To those mentioning CO and NY or whatever state... I live in MN and those laws don't affect me. The only thing happening here in MN is a skillfully played move by the left to get pro-gun folks worked up for political gain.

I'm not following how anyone gained from this cycle.
