The Endgame: SF 458 - Universal Background Checks

Postby homerange on Thu Feb 21, 2013 9:01 pm

I attended the Capitol hearings at noon today. It was obvious that S.F. 458, requiring universal background checks is the endgame for gun-grabbing politicians. How do I know this? They brought out the BIG GUNS to testify:

  • Mayor R.T. Rybak
  • Son of mass shooting victim Reuven Rahamim
  • Minnesota Sheriffs Association
  • No fewer than FOUR police chiefs of various cities (whose side are they on?)

Why are the politicians putting all their weight behind this bill? Because SF 458 IS THE BACKDOOR TO REGISTRATION. We cannot allow Universal Background Checks to pass. It would ban all private sales of firearms, forcing every citizen to register with a FFL (and pay fees) to legally transfer a firearm.

Please, do not waver in your effort to block this legislation from passing. Call, e-mail, or visit your Senator (lookup your senator here).

Tell them that you OPPOSE SF 458 and Universal Background Checks.

P.S. Legislators at the capitol have told me that rural Democrats are vulnerable on gun rights issues. If you live in a rural district it is crucial that you keep the pressure on.

Why isnt anyone challenging the 40% statistic? And I mean in front of the hearings? Make them prove their statistics and the methodology behind them. Dont just quote the Brady Bunch, show the number of people surveyed, as well as other demographics and the specific questions asked...

These legislators live and die by polls and studies, so they should be asking for this material to review as part of the process.

Obviously they know their data is flawed...

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the outcome of the vote.

The NRA lobbyist rebuffed this in his remarks on Thursday. But you are correct, this needs to be vocalized repeatedly to our voting representatives.

In a letter to my senator, I outlined contrary statistics citing that only 1.7% of convicted felons used firearms purchased at gun shows.

Here is a great article you can abstract and email to your senator:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jan/30/the-gun-show-loophole-myth

I was surprised to find out when I met my senator in person that he had in fact opened and read some of the articles I forwarded.

Keep the pressure on!
