Paymar wants to reintroduce ban on private sales

Postby jshuberg on Wed Mar 20, 2013 3:56 pm

Despite what he said last night, Paymar is now saying he intends to bring an amendment to HF1325 that would reintroduce "universal background checks" AKA a ban on private sales of firearms.

My guess, very few other Democrats want this amendment introduced, as it would force a vote where everyone will be on the record. I'm sure they can taste the air and realize that voting for this would be political suicide, but if they vote against it they will have their name dragged through the mud in the press. It's a no win situation for the average Democrat. We need to keep hammering them, letting them know their service in office will no longer be tolerated if they vote to deprive law-abiding citizens of their constitutionally protected rights.

I have just started a fund and I will add to it as I can, to ensure that Paymar never sets foot in a Gov office as an elected official ever again after the next election. I will spend as much as I can afford and I will enlist others to do the same. In addition I will contribute as much time as humanly possible to unseat him and to serve the better purpose of the gun owners of Minnesota. I am fed up to friggen HERE!!

He shot himself in his own political foot.

Here is Rep Paymar's current resume. Take a GOOD look at his photo and then please note how his current employment conflicts with anything related to weapons.

I suspect Paymar and Latz are both in "safe" districts and will be reelected until they decide to move on.
I will never apologize for being an American.

Can anyone educate me how Paymar was a consultant to The US Marine Corp? Was that the "Dont ask, don't tell" legal consultancy?

So then, you guys are suggesting that we the gun owners of Minnesota, should just roll over and play dead so he can play his politically back stabbing protocol?

The guy is a namby-pamby that is anti guns but probably has a chrome plated Gucci .22 auto in his nightstand.

Here is your Representative Michael Paymar:

(Minnesota) is a co-founder of the nationally recognized Duluth Domestic Abuse Intervention Project. He has conducted professional workshops and lectured nationally and internationally on domestic violence.

Mr. Paymar is the author of Violent No More: Helping Men End Domestic Abuse, a self help book for abusive men, co-author of Education Groups for Men Who Batter: The Duluth Model and the curriculum Creating a Process of Change for Men Who Batter with Ellen Pence.

He produced Domestic Violence: The Law Enforcement Response, a curriculum for law enforcement, co-authored Building a Coordinated Community Response to Domestic Violence and produced the film Men, Battering and Change.

Mr. Paymar served on the Duluth City Council and was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1996 where he is serving in his seventh term representing the City of St. Paul.

He chairs the Public Safety Finance Division, which has financial oversight over the Courts, Department of Public Safety, Department of Corrections, Department of Human Rights and crime victim programs. Mr. Paymar is a past adjunct faculty member at the University of St. Thomas and currently works with the Battered Women’s Justice Project in Minneapolis.

So the real question I have: what are the odds of this amendment actually passing?

It's frustrating, with all these games they play.

Nonetheless, I think this is their last trick. I assume Latz has a similar card up his sleeve.

It seems like Paymar really isn't looking to succeed at this point. He just wants the pro-gun people to go on record as being against "common sense legislation".

It's so easy to get the goat of people like this. Years ago my dad and his colleagues were required to take a course on how to respond to domestic situations. They asked for a volunteer and when no one raised their hand, they selected a rather surly fellow. They brought this surly cop on stage where two actors enacted a very intense argument that ended with the women screaming "that's it! I AM LEAVING!!" They then asked the surly cop what he should do to resolve the situation.

"Let her go."
How can you say that?"
"If she leaves no more fight. I have other calls to attend to."
"WHAT?? How can you say this, DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THEIR MARRIAGE DEPENDS ON THIS??"
"Not my problem. I've got other things to do."
"But what if she really leaves him?"
"Let the b**** go."
"How can you be so callous?????"
"I go by the box car theory. Once this one passes, another will be by any second."

I'm guessing Paymar isn't above this kind of approach.

My guess is thats why his committee now has a meeting scheduled at 10:00am on Friday with agenda "TBA". it would be interesting, because I do not see a companion bill that made it out of a senate committee; it would need to match SF 235 (which HF285 does) or match SF458 (which HF237 did - which died yesterday.

We should raffle a few ARs to raise money to oust him. That would be sweet music. I heard on Gun Talk Radio where a guy was raising $8-10k per rifle for charity raffles.
