NRA wrote:Expanding background checks at gun shows will not prevent the next shooting, will not solve violent crime and will not keep our kids safe in schools. While the overwhelming rejection of President Obama and Mayor Bloomberg's "universal" background check agenda is a positive development, we have a broken mental health system that is not going to be fixed with more background checks at gun shows.

Looks like gun shows and "commercial" ventures that bring buyer and seller together will now require a background check w/ recordskeeping.

Exempt are transfers to family and "close friends".

So, more legislation that makes people feel like they are doing something, that is 100% unenforceable.

We're after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you'd better get wise to it. There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them...you create a nation of lawbreakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Rearden." (2.2.3.39)

For the record, each and every one of you on here are my very best, closest, and personal best freind. So if I buy something from you, it's just between close friends, that's all.

Carry on.

Actually, I think this would become a reason for a monthly get-together for members of this board. I mean, once you've had a beer/cigar/coffee/bonfire/pancake/chinese food with someone - you're brothers for life!

Under the Manchin-Toomey agreement, background checks will occur for sales conducted at gun shows, online, and through public advertisements with full record keeping, which advocates see as essential for enforcement and tracing crime guns. Friend-to-friend and family sales will be exempt from the requirement.

Sounds like defacto registration to me.

Stabbed in the back by Rinos again.
I will never apologize for being an American.

"Compromise" by two senators, which doesn't count for much.

The provisions in the bill don't look like any type of compromise to me. They look just as bad as all the previous proposals.

Carry permit holders exempt from 4473's when buying from a dealer? That will make buyers who routinely get delayed have a little bit of an easier time buying.....

So much time, energy and money spent on something that will never happen.

Pandering to your base sure seems tiring. Especially when you know it has zero chance of passing.

It's only a compromise if both sides give something up, and we have no reason to give up ANYTHING.

When Republicans compromise it = caving in to the dems.
You are correct we have been stabbed in the back by RINO's again!
I heard Lindsy Ghram on the radio yesterday. He says good things on the air. But you know he is a backroom deal cutter and king of compromising.
Of course he is best buddies with the king of rino's Jhon Mcain!

All politicians are scumbags. Don't demonize the democrats for their idiocy unless you're prepared to do the same for idiot republicans. Remember, there are plenty of good old boy, god-fearing christian Republicans who are anti-gun as well. Firearm rights are mostly a matter of party politics, but there are people on both sides whose feelings and beliefs on the matter will betray their party's general attitude.

In order to have a bonfire you have to burn wood. Lets assume that the wood you're burning came from a dead limb that fell off a tree in your back yard last year. If that limb hadn't fallen you might have purchased firewood to burn at the get-together. That affects interstate commerce, so the meeting is a commercial setting.

Um what do you think I just did there? Lindsy and Mcain are Republicans! I will demonize anybody, I damn well want to.
I have stated more than once I despise the majority of the political class. I will tear into any politician of either party if I don't like what they are doing.
