So many Minnesotans have been affected by gun violence.

On Sunday afternoon, those families will gather to remember those lives lost. The "Remembrance of Life Event" takes place at Church of the Ascension on Bryant Avenue in Minneapolis from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Heather Martens, organizer of Protect Minnesota, said the meeting is a way to talk about gun violence in the community.

Many of the people expected to attend the event have lost a child due to homicide or suicide, Martens said.

"It has a huge effect on us as Americans and as Minnesotans," Martens said. "One of the things that many people don't know is that four out of five gun deaths in Minnesota are suicides."

For more information, see the event's Facebook page.

My complaint here is about the quality of KSTP's news product. Of the four choices for TV news I've found KSTP to be the most objective...

I think the line So many Minnesotans have been affected by gun violence.
belongs on the editorial page and not as a news item.

So many Minnesotans have been affected by gun violence.
not really.

"Gun Thug Violence" occurs mainly in the 4th precinct of Minneapolis, which generates more crime that all other precincts combined and amongst a small sub-set of government-dependent citizens.

By making this statement KSTP smears all the sober, law-abiding gun owners who possess firearms for the protection of self and family.

This 'news blurb' on the KSTP TV website was written by Megan Stewart.

Remember, there are 1+ million Minnesotans who own guns, and ALL of us deplore violence. "Protect" Minnesota chooses to spend all their time and political capital harassing those of us who haven't done anything wrong.

Don Samuels, the council member representing North Minneapolis has retired.

Does this mean no one will be parading 2 dozen kids from North Minneapolis into the hearing room this year.

I want to know more about 'Mad Dads' I think they'd more open minded than the cry-baby wing of the Anti-Movement.

Email sent. I also noticed that Fleet Farm was the weekly ad on the article page. I politely inquired as to whether that company would be glad to share space with Marten's anti-2ndA message.

I don't deplore violence. Depending upon the circumstances some righteous violence might be called for.

If 1+ million Minnesotans showed up to raise the broadcasting towers and KSTP station to the ground I'd be impressed.

The reason this blipped my radar was that KSTP is consistently more.....How do you say....'Fair and Balanced' in it's TV coverage.

So....the HAND WRINGING TONE of "So many Minnesotans have been affected by gun violence"

It's the note of Helplessness that the big government fans cultivate that pisses me off as well.

I think her point about 4/5 being suicides is a fact we should focus on. If someone wants to end their life, it is none of my business and the instrument they use is irrelevant.

I think most non-gun people think the number of gun homicides is much higher than it is. How much time is being wasted crafting laws and restrictions to address the 70-75 annual gun murders?

That is also a national point as well. I had gotten into a disagreement with a relative about this and I pointed out that Japan has a lot of suicides and that is not really a gun culture. People find ways to end their lives with or without guns. And the anti2a use those numbers to skew the facts and reality of numbers.

This was a great ploy to see how many of us would jump on your "violence bandwagon".

Sadly for you, you are all alone. No one fell for it. But it was well trolled....

About suicide: the claim is that guns make impulse suicides more convenient and more successful. The example of gas ovens in Britain is sometimes cited: Britain relied on coal gas, which contained large amounts of carbon monoxide. Reportedly, in the early 1950s half of all suicides in Britain were by gas oven. But gas ovens were eventually phased out in favor of electric, and supposedly suicide rates dropped after people no longer had a convenient suicide machine in their homes.

Funny that she should mention this as some on the far left have no issue with suicide. But I wonder if Heather Martens would be okay if people intentionally overdosed or jumped from tall buildings to off themselves.
