HF 2007 introduced, MN recognition of North Dakota permits

Postby Marble on Wed Jan 15, 2014 7:47 pm

Monday the 13th was (as I understand it) the first day for our legislators to introduce legislation for this session at the State Capitol.

Fabian; Dill; Newberger; Nornes; Anderson, M.; Dean, M.; Zerwas; Hertaus; Kiel; Benson, M.; Uglem and Anzelc introduced:

H. F. 2007, A bill for an act relating to public safety; amending the Minnesota Personal Protection Act to recognize the North Dakota permit to carry a pistol as being valid within Minnesota; amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 624.714, subdivision 16.

The bill was referred to the Committee on Public Safety Finance and Policy.

What are the chances of this passing this year? I'm guessing not good with Paymar chairing the Public Safety committee, but I'd love to see it, as I believe ND would reciprocate and we would be able to legally carry in ND.

Surprised to see Tony Cornish isn't listed as a co-author. I assume GOCRA had a hand?

I hope GOCRA did NOT have a hand in writing this. Opening 624.714 for a ND Reciprocity amendment opens the whole enchilada. Once the bill is open any number of people can add other amendments to the law. I sense some bad things popping up

GOCRA did not have a hand in writing this.

It was brought to my attention during a recent meeting with the NRA's MN Lobbyist. The NRA in ND has a high desire to have reciprocity with MN. They planned on this to try to force the hand.

I worked with the NRA to develop a better strategy for getting ND reciprocity for at least their 2nd tier permits. We are optimistic that something will be done (without any legislative involvement). Time will tell, and I'll keep you guys up to date.

I completely agree that we don't want the leg opening up reciprocity... Luckily there's no way in hell this will get called up in Paymar's cmte.

Thanks all for keeping eyes out.
